Much as I dislike Shehbaz Gill & ARY propaganda - is it truly sedition to say officers must not follow unconstitutional/illegal orders? Of course, one can see what they are up to & their sanctimonious hypocrisy is repulsive but hypocrisy’s not a crime.

The “just following orders” defence has been discredited since Nuremberg. If an honourable officer is ordered to interfere in politics in violation of his oath - he should politely decline & lay down his commission. That applies now & to 2018 and to all the other times .

Real cause of decline in popular support & respect for armed forces/judiciary & growth of factions within the institutions is neither the PTI’s narrative today nor the PML-N speeches yesterday. It is these institutions’ own failure to resist the temptation of playing politics...




undoubtedly, the vulgar politics of Gill needs to be handled with high democratic and constitutional principles. But, it is to be un-perturbed when response elicited by such caustic language against armed forces is observed utterly geographical specific!

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday demanded immediate release of its senior party leader and former special assistant to the prime minister for political communication Dr Shahbaz Gill who was arrested earlier by the Islamabad Police, reported Aaj News.

In an emergency meeting, chaired by PTI Chairman Imran Khan at Bani Gala, party members called for initiating legal proceedings in response to Gill’s arrest.

Former federal minister for law Babar Awan briefed the participants on the legal process and the meeting unanimously termed the arrest unlawful. The meeting also discussed lodging a petition in court to challenge the arrest later during the day.

A part of me does give a lot of weight to the theory that PDM has been trapped to do this intentionally for this very last implosion and permanent end. Pakistan can't move forward with China and Russia until these pro-West forces have been eradicated. IK would have most likely lost the next GE as narrative of inflation during his time was beginning to blaze. A strong civilian leader is required for alignment to China and Russia, with little to no resistance from pro-West forces in country.
