KARACHI: Dr Arif Alvi Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf while addressing a workers meeting in Karachi said that PTI is concerned and strongly condemns the statement of Mr Zulfiqar Mirza who has incited the Urdu speaking and Mohajir community of Pakistan by stating that when they came here they were hungry and without clothes, the terms used were’ Bhookey Nangey’ which is very demeaning and derogatory. Mr Mirza in his anger at the MQM should refrain from including the entire Urdu speaking population and other migrant communities of Pakistan in the same bracket. These communities irrespective of their ethnicity made sacrifices in blood to make Pakistan a reality.
He said that such derogatory terms incite the population to street violence in a city which has not seen peace for decades. The entire population of Pakistan including Sindh historically welcomed the migrants from India. Statements such as these fanning ethnic hatred and violence is a political exploitation by coalition partners who want these conflicts to continue in a vicious cycle of loot, plunder and killing of innocents.
We condemn this heinous battle for demographic control of the city of Qaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. PTI as an inclusive and plural party believes that not only Karachi but also entire Pakistan belongs to every Pakistani irrespective of Color, Religion, Ethnicity and Language. PTI will hold against all political parties that resort to emotional ransom of people with slogans like ‘our backs are to the wall and there is no way out but to fight’.
Dr Alvi said that while Mr Mirza has apologized, Karachi again lost 15 of its citizens. Those parties which can switch on and switch off violence within hours should take pity on the city and stop this battle for demographic superiority. PTI appeals to the masses not to be incited by such remarks and show a unity and love which is the characteristic of this land of Sufis and Saints. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Mr Imran Khan visualize a Pakistan of peace and prosperity which can only be achieved as people reject this hollow linguistic rhetoric of hatred and violence.
