DHAKA: Several television channels of Bangladesh have expressed keen interest in telecasting their channels in India to reach the Indian audience, said a press release.

This issue has also been mentioned by many other well-wishers outside of the media industry in Bangladesh, it added.

The factual position with regard to down-linking and up-linking TV channels to and from India is contained in the policy guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India on December 5, 2011.

These guidelines are available on the website: http://www.mib.nic.in(http://www.mi...uid2=51&uid3=128&uid4=0&uid5=0&uid6=0&uid7=0)

The Guidelines clearly indicate that there is no legal bar in India to the down-linking of TV channels from Bangladesh.

The guidelines contain the eligibility criteria for applicant companies and provide full information on the requirements that are expected to be met while obtaining permission for such down-linking.

These criteria have been listed for the benefit of applicant companies, and to make the application procedure completely transparent and rule-based.

Briefly summarized, in order to downlink any foreign television channel in India an application is required to be submitted to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India through a company registered under Indian Companies Act 1956 and having the prescribed net worth.

The channel can be down-linked after the Indian authorities approve registration of that company. The applicant company should either own the channel or have exclusive marketing distribution rights for the same.

The applicant company should have the minimum net worth as mentioned below:

For down-linking of first television channel Indian Rupees 5 crores for down-linking each additional television channel Indian Rupees 2.5 crores

The applicant company should provide names and details of their Directors and their Chairperson, MD, COO, CEO, CTO, CFO, and Head of marketing etc.

The applicant company will furnish all technical details and also demonstrate the facilities for monitoring and storing record for 90 days.

At least one of the persons occupying a top management position in the applicant company should have a minimum 3 years of prior experience in a top management position in a media company.

The channel being down-linked should be licensed or permitted to broadcast by the regulatory or licensing authority of the country of transmission.

The channel being registered should not have been de-registered at the time of application. Additional conditions would apply in the case of news and current affairs channels.

The registration and permission to downlink would be valid for 10 years. A fee of Rupees 10 lakhs has to be paid at the time of grant of permission to downlink channels.

Apart from this, Rupees 5 lakhs per annum per channel for down-linking channels up-linked from India and Rupees 15 lakh per annum per channel for down-linking channels uplinked from abroad as permission fee for registration would be required.

Most of the indian bengali channel are already found in bangladesh, however i only saw one or two bangladeshi channels in indian tv network

No offense but most Bangladeshi movies and tv soups are major attack on your sanity. But a good step nonetheless.

Yeah, I guess, it can be popular in west bengal. Bangladeshi 'natok' is quite popular form of entertainment, right?

Yeah bangladeshi drama is way more popular than our films. Futhermore, its where the pretty actresses are :) ,

Is it going to be in hindi or bengali

Bengali, nobody speaks hindi in bangladesh

Yes, I have seen them on insistence of my bangladeshi mates. Did not understand everything, but girls are pretty, and dressed up well (only thing you can observe when you dont understand it... :) )

Give the damn downlinking..atleast one less whining from the Bangladeshis.

BDs & Bengalis pick up Hindi/Urdu fast when compared to South Indians.

Understand hindi, yes. Yes for speaking hindi(broken) but nobody talks to each other in hindi in bangladesh

On the bright side, it does not have the dramatic faces like in hindi drama :P
