Don’t turn AMU into a madrassa: Students

Aligarh Muslim University was meant to contest with the age old Muslim traditional beliefs and dogmas which Mr.Sayed Ahmad Khan felt the urgent need of the time to elevate the Muslims from their state of precariousness in the early 19th century. This is his revolt against the traditional fundamentalism which caused threat to his own life from fanatics. If the very same institution is reverting back to the century old regressive ideologies, it is an unfortunate development defying every essence of the spirit beneath it's foundation.
actually sir.....
Alighar muslim university was founded by Sir Sayed ahmad khan and he opened this university because he feared hindus of time were moving ahead with modernity and if muslims of the time need to catch up with hindus and modern education and learning is the only way......this university was opened as a beacon of modernity and higher education for muslims rather than its turning into the house of fundamentalism and fanaticism.....
but today the same university is turning into the house of Wahhabism..and fundamentalism...
instead of moving ahead with time ..they are having their back to the modernity and ..fundamentalism is in rises here and personal freedom of living and expression is been curtailed in name if Islam....
and yes..the same institute which was once opened to light up the muslim community is heading back to stone age.....because of their old ideology and traditional; barriers.....

No, I found it is restricted for all girl students, :( now there is an attempt to give them online access to indexes and option to order books from library.

Now, in a concession to these undergraduate women students, AMU has decided provided them online access to the catalogue of books. The varsity says the girls can choose the books which would then be issued and delivered to them.

Along with the Hindu and Times of India reporting this what the bulletin of oppression of women in Islam says.:undecided:

:) That's seems to be a discussion forum that posts news from different sources, they are following this story, this news was also linked to that website!!

Government ups pressure on Aligarh Muslim University over gender bias : North, News - India Today

Times of India says this:

"The women boarders of the hall are not allowed out of the college campus except on Sundays, so membership of the university library is ruled out for them. Even day scholars of the college are not allowed into the library, considered one of the best in Asia."

No mention of only undergraduate students!!

Edit: TOI also reported this: "AMU decided to allow online access of the library's catalogue of books. It refuted charges of gender discrimination, saying postgraduate women students had access to the library."

But then, it says "had" !! :(

Off course this is a sad development. As quite aptly described by Irfan Habib as an utter unconstitutional behavior. Hope the administration revives it's policy.

They must, everything cannot be left at the hands of the mob or popular demand, if this continues then next they will ban women students from studying in the university. They are already saying financial independence of women is un-Islamic, check this part from the OP's article.

"They publish books that speak about how financial independence for a woman is un-Islamic. Sometimes they are told that if circumstances force women to work, they should follow rules like wearing the hijab, talking in soft tones and maintaining a distance from men."

This is one of the premier unis in India... hope liberals win.
