Don’t Be Alarmed But China Could Be Building A Military Base In Pakistan

Man, I appreciate your cautious tone in this forum about not confronting America---unlike some other fellows who are chest thumping constantly. But you sure do have an excuse for everything Trump says and does! Other than Fox News, do you follow other American media? Global media? About Trump? Are you that awed by him? This guy in his first year alone has landed in many controversies and there is a GOOD chance he will not even make to 2020 as POTUS. And he got around 3 million less votes than Hillary--so talk about popularity! Many people have been already alienated by him--people who voted for him. Yes, the current tax breaks are looking good--even to me--but there will be long term consequences for America because of that.

He may not be 'stupid' as we know of Forrest Gump. But his rash decision makings, his humiliating and firing his closest advisors, and indeed his policies, make him as close to being a 'stupid' as a leader can be.
I think you misunderstood my message.

A stupid person can never become POTUS in the first place. Trump is not only a billionaire but has a great deal of exposure to mechanics of Wall Street and connections that matter. He is also a celebrity and reality TV star. He outgunned Hillary Clinton in politics by bringing those issues to limelight which were all but forgotten. His homework was complete.

Now as POTUS, he is fulfilling his campaign promises left and right (popular or not). This man has guts unlike many seasoned politicians. Credit where due.

I am not a fan of Trump but I happen to agree with some of his views. He may not get a second term but his tenure is a necessary evil to fix American politics. Hopefully both Democrats and Republicans have learned valuable lessons from the ongoing chapter.

No sir. I understood you fine. You are still giving too much credit to the intelligence of this clown. Please read your response to my post above and one can see you have an excuse for everything the guy has done.

When he had won, I was shocked but I had thought maybe, just maybe, he's going to control his impulses as the POTUS. No--it's not happening enough. And he really didn't 'outgun' Hillary--that's a stretch. She won the popular votes by millions ahead--this was not some JFK-Nixon race. He got in because she was unpopular in some swing states and that too not by huge margins.

And he will ruin America despite what the short term gains in the economy we are seeing--built upon Obama's work.

I won't quibble with you on this. It's Off Topic anyway. Only time will prove one of us right or wrong.

I am neutral in my judgement in this matter. I do not have stakes in American politics but I have my observations; I do concentrate on what is happening in that part of the world from time-to-time.

I do not parrot the language of Democrats blindly. I admire Bill Clinton but not his wife. If Hillary Clinton had credibility, she would have won by a landslide but she is corrupt to the core and Americans saw through her ruse.

Popular vote is not everything; popularity in a large number of states matter. US is much bigger than Los Angeles and New York City which are overwhelmingly Democrat.

Americans chose Trump to punish American politicians; to shake them out of status-quo. Hopefully, Democrats and Republicans have learned a lesson.

We are still capable enough to defend ourselves.
I think giving a base to Chinese would be the last option.
There is a kind of confusion in international media with regards to Pakistan. They see pakistan through Indian lens, as the only versions avalible to international community are by our Indian peers. We need to understand that we failed miserably in promoting our sacrifices, gains and narrative in international community.
This was news back few months that Chinese are asking or building a naval base. But nothing appear on ground.
Even on 2000s when a military dictator was sitting president and press was new , the news about giving military bases to u.s was in open.
If anything was in plan , it would come in media. As of now nothing is on ground.
Maybe in future. But then I think we can tackle challenges ourselves.

hmmm. So CPEC became strategic alliance out of necessity or someone game-planed this to perfection.
Chinese worries about Pakistan’s isolation and its impact on the CPEC are exaggerated. Pakistan cannot be isolated by India beyond a limit. India has overplayed its hostility card and was snubbed by China and Russia at the Brics summit. However, Pakistan may encounter another combined onslaught from India and the US against the CPEC, declaring it a strategic alliance rather than economic with some strategic content in order to isolate Pakistan.

LOL

India gave British Ft. George In Kolkatta. Britain gave Diego Garcia to US. South Korea gave bases to USA. Turkey gave US bases in Incirlik. Syria has given Tartus to Russia. Bahrain to US etc etc etc

Your point is?

*My point is countries, great and good like UK, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, Bahrain, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Spain, have foreign bases if it suits their policy interests. Therefore if it suits Pakistan's interests I can't see a problem with a PLN or PLAF or a PLA base or even better all of them.
Whatever floats your boat mate..

No and no.
Karachi used to be a pretty big RN base and in WW2 was a major USN and USAAF (as it then was) statiion. In 1947, Pakistan declined to give the UK future basing rights. We also turned down the US request to led SAC bombers use Lahore and then Peshawar Bases for Soviet attacks.

The only thing Pakistan requested was to let the CIA use Peshawar for U2 flights. (as did India also).

The opposite of client relationship that enjoys 'permanent'* relationship is a transient relationship where two sides come together in short term mutually beneficial partneship but no investment is made that has long term maturity. This is what USA/Pakista have had.

*It being understood nothing is permanent as in forever.
Only HE is Ba'ki, all others are Fa'ni...

In the book "Fire and Fury", published yesterday, WH staffers have described how moron Trump is in the most eloquent manner!!! Few examples:
  • Not only stupid but also crazy
  • Semi-literate
  • Don't read at all - not even a half-page memo
  • Takes rash decisions based on his intuitions/guts, which he considers to be supreme
  • Nobody has control over his tweets
  • During the discussion of the serious policy matters he looks "paralyzed"
  • Even during the meeting with the leaders of the top allies, he leaves half-way for he feels "bored"
  • He denigrates his staffs (including son, daughter, son-in-law etc.) in the language even the stress folks avoid
  • Staffers with conscience and knowledge dread to death seeing this sate of affairs inside the WH
  • etc..

What is a full spectrum relationship? Something akin between two brothers. Investments are made on a long term basis. The idea is you accepted that the country is your long term ally and will be with you in 4, 5 or 6 decades and accordingly the country is given massive economic help intended to lift the client to the same level as that of the host country. This therefore entails decades of continous and full social, political, economic and military investment. Because the private capital in the host country knows the client is "permanent" they will invest heavily knowing that their investment is protected by the strategic cover of host/client.

You see exactly this type of client relationship between Turkey/USA or South Korea/USA. The host will not hesitate in sharing everything including even hi-tech military technology. For instance USA will be more than happy to share F-35 technology with any of it's client states like South Korea, Turkey etc

Pakistan and China have the strategic convergence on which similar client relationship could be built. Indeed CPEC is the first plank in that direction.

Pakistan-China relations are more than host and client relations. It has some detail and also surprises.

I put it in simpler words.

In our neighbors a house was built. Next week there was announcement that there's marriage of their elder son. The bride had shifted the house.

You don't believe till you have invitation in your hands.

So the US which has literally hundreds of Overseas military bases on every part of the globe has issues with China-Pakistan having a military base in Pakistan?? It is pathetic.
