His disliking of Pakistan predates 2001 and therefore most Indians aren't aware of the history. As for Amrullah Saleh's interests and Pakistan's interests, we'll always be at odds, the politics of Afghanistan and Pakistan have never been and will never be the domain of India.

I've often in the past, and now rather blithely, remarked that most Indians, especially those that obviously have an anti-Pak bias and who aren't students of Afghan Pak relations, simplify the relationship between the two down to things that fit their preconceived narrative of Pakistan.

If you'll forgive me, I mean no offence, but you sound like you belong to that category, as do many Indian members on this forum.

If this conversation were in person, where it would not be possible for you to consult google before replying to a question, I would ask you what you mean by a phrase such as 'strategic depth', and Pakistan's 'doctrine of strategic depth against india'? You're implying this is some sort of evil design, it's a buzzword about Af-Pak affairs often and carelessly thrown around without any elaboration, I'm not surprised to see Indian members parroting it and other phrases without knowing anything deeper.

Pakistan's aims in Afghanistan are selfish, they are all about Pakistan's interests, they have been influenced by the US, but Pakistan has not and indeed cannot succumb to their demands fully. Pakistan's own security depends on some sort of stability in Afghanistan and with the added condition that Afghan soil cannot be used against Pakistan, so that instability cannot spill over the border. These are red lines for Pakistan, and any country in our situation would behave exactly the same. Please don't then reserve terms like 'strategic depth' for Pakistan. Pakistan's policies in Afghanistan are completely rational, if anything, Pakistan has gone too far out of its way to accommodate the interests of others, to the determent of its own, though that is a sign of post 9/11 US pressure and presence.

I've spoken vaguely and cryptically here, that's intentional. I'd much rather you read around what I'm implying here than me mentioning specifics and you missing the bigger picture as it seems so many Indians do.

News paper is a medium where every tom,dick and harry will give his opinion. It is upto ppl to pick and choose or believe what they want.

Every newspaper is out to expand their position among it's readers.

If a newspaper has a, lets say anti-China, position it will expand on that. It will rile up it's base by having individuals of all caliber write pieces on that position and it will give the stage.

It's one thing to have an India write an anti-China article. It's quite another to have an America, Russia, N. Korea, hell even Chinese citizen write an anti-Chinese article.
