You really don't have any idea! Here's what happened. Assad thought that it would be like last time. It's too early to say if he's right.

I already expressed the fact that I didn't know what happened at the time of the post. I think you mis-characterized my argument though. I know for a fact Assads' capacity for cruelty, and also whether he has used chemical weapons inside Syria in the past. I was commenting on whether this was a sanctioned or known (not tolerated, sanctioned) attack by the Russians.

After the first chemical attack by the assad regime Putin forgot to tell this to his misbegotten child, "Son, whatever you did was great but don't try it again." Hence he thought he had the permission from his step daddy.
