There are aggressive Chinese and not so aggressive chinese.It depends on which region you are talking about.People who live in Northeastern provinces and inner mongolia are the most aggressive ones.Even Uyghur turks don't dare to fight with them.People who live in southern provinces are not so aggressive（not aggressive at all maybe）.

My hunch is, there is no need for China to be aggressive. In ancient times, this is absolutely correct. Most surrounding countries are not suitable for people to live.

I think to remain firm but cool-headed is the right strategy. Firmness ensures China has the required material capability to fend off the poetnially agressive. Cool-headedness ensures that China would not show off its muscle at every instance, but rather, keep it low-profile and sort of "unpredictable." This may ensures the friend of your strong personality, and the enemy, of your potential power to punish if the situation requires so.
