A potential superpower is a state that is speculated to be, or to be in the process of becoming, a superpower at some point in the 21st century. Presently, it is widely considered that only the United States currently fulfills the criteria to be considered a superpower.[3][4] States most commonly mentioned as being potential superpowers are Brazil,[5][6][7] China,[8] the European Union,[9] India and Russia,[10][11] based on a variety of factors.

But as many do not approve Wiki, lets discuss it
I take India as a potential superpower for sure, and a Super power of the next decade.
:mps:

Nither Super power........
Yes but could be a potential power............but incase if Indis ersolve issues its neighbouring countries.

Look US can force its decisions on any country in the world.....Can india do this thing?......US can do this only coz US have strong relations with its neighbours......

One thing more there were USSR and USA, 2 super powers both try to brake other and US succeded ............now its China, a growing super power and US is trying to play with it.

If India goes up, wouldnt USA try to stop it?

India Super Power, NO ..
Not till next 3 decades at least.

Potential Super Power, yes but not at top of list coz it has, China, Europe, UK, Russia above it..

Also India is going up fastly because US want it to become stronger against china, once US intentions are fullfiled or changed, india wouldn't be able to grow that fast in military terms specifically.. India is grooming just because US hand is behind her right now..

Another Rookie thread..

People. We are already Super Natural Power because half of the country runs on Ram Bharose. Aren't you surprised that Assam, Meghalya, Sikkim, Manipur, Orissa, WB, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are still part of India. Look wt is being done there??

On serious note, There's only one big daddy in the world and thats U.S. India cannot be now but may be after solving Kashmir, Arunachal, Maoists and ofcourse toilets.

To be a superpower, one needs to dictate authority, can India do it?? China is slowly getting there.

Recognize India as a super power? a big "no", why?, an old post of mine should do the trick;

The biggest problem which is holding India back is lack of social infrastructure, "plague" of poverty. India today might be a emerging power in the Information Technology sector thanks to its limited educational system, which is not available to everybody. Still half of the population is unable to read or write. If India wants to really prosper in a healthy way it will have to find ways to distribute the benefits of development evenly in the society. Population can be capital but also a hindrance if not educated, healthy etc:argh::usflag:

India Will Grow In Double Digits By 2013: Trade Minister

India’s Minister for Trade Anand Sharma reportedly said on Monday at the Spanish capital of Madrid that the Indian economy could grow double-digit by 2013.

Addressing a business conference, he hoped India’s growth this year would be between 8.5% to 9%.

He said that India had the largest middle class in the globe, equivalent to the population of all of Europe besides housing many poor persons. India’s economic growth kicked off following the liberalization of foreign trade and investment norms in the early 1990’s.

India’s economy grew at 6.5% in 2008-09 after being down from its average of 9% for the past four years during the global slowdown. This was in contrast to what occurred in many developed economies. India sustained growth during the crisis due to rising incomes, boosting the demand for cars, mobile telephones and many other consumer durables.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects India’s economic growth at 8.75% in 2010 and at 8.5% in 2011.

and the Poverty rate in India has been declining steadily thanks to NREGA and many more poverty removal schemes, you better renew your G.K,

No.USA wont stop it,until it surpassses China..while India grows,China will grow as well..the US focus remains on China, while we grow alongside.:pop:

Dont want to be in another debate, nither offensive............

But India cant grow as Super power untill China goes down ...........and if China goes US will look for other country that will be rising ...............Chk out US WAR history from weki.....u will find every thing....

And one more thing that there are China, Europe, UK, Russia above to India....

If India want to rise, then India have to build strong relations with neibours....

In the name of God! What is this nonsense? India needs to first learn to provide basic necessities to all its people, after all India is for Indians!

Who the duck cares what label it carries?

A very sensable post.........
I think all countires like Pakistan , India BD, SL n others should work on their nations...
And believe me no one here wants war.......every one wants peace and stability

Only an egomaniac would ask this kind of a question on a Pakistani defense forum

No Pakistani is ready to accept, just as very usual,
I do no understand what China's gotta do with India becoming a super power?

They just find ways to contradict the thread title
