It's a letter that Maj. Gen. Amos Horev says is one of his most telling artifact from Israel's six decades of independence. "Please give to Amos two guns and one mortar from Jerusalem," reads the note to another commander from a Jewish US Army colonel who, after World War II, came to help the Jewish army in Palestine.

To Mr. Horev, himself a leader in the army called the Hagana, Hebrew for defense, it's a reminder of how low on guns and bullets his fighters were. "The most crucial war we ever fought was the War of Independence. We asked every day, 'Are we going to make it or not?' It was a very difficult time. We didn't know if we could protect Jerusalem, where we had 100,000 people. My parents were there." That period of time was the most difficult, he says, because of a scarceness of arms. "We could hardly buy anything. We were so poor in weapons, and afterwards, we said, never again can we suffer from this kind of shortage," he says, sitting on the sofa in his home in this quiet Tel Aviv suburb he's lived in for half a century. "We felt the world had granted us a state without giving us the means to defend it."

...Both of his parents had immigrated here from Warsaw, in 1919, two years after the Balfour Declaration stating Britain's support for the creation of a Jewish state in Mandatory Palestine, previously a province of the Ottoman Empire. They came as Zionists who hoped to build a new state in their old homeland, but also to escape anti-Semitism. Had they not left, his parents later realized, they would likely have been killed by the Nazis, like many of their relatives who stayed.

I may see this man tomorrow. Any questions? If they are polite and not judgmental, perhaps I will ask them for you.

That's not a question, but a pejorative, and an odd one at that. Amos Horev has led quite an event-filled life, and in his military career faced many of the same issues as Pakistani military leaders.

Thank for giving us F-16 spare parts when US had Pressler Amendment on us and helping China for J-10s which will be part of PAF too.

When will the Israeli Government and Establishment stop crushing the innocent Palestinians?
When will they have courage to declare themselves as an atomic power as Pakistan and India did and faced the world?
What do they really think about Pakistan?
What have you learnt from the Lebanon war?

When will musliums countries will take side with Pakistan and not India?
Why Bangla Army Cheif is visiting India?
When Pakistan's will think of their own problems and you know both Lebanon and Palestinians love India and hate Pakistan.

That's the love of Sheikh Haseena Wajid for Pakistan:frown:.

Disagree
Then we also stop thinking of getting permanent membership in UN as a sole muslim Veto power and represent Muslims of the world.:pakistan:

I would like to know Have we specifically asked any Muslim country to intervene and help us??
Just like the Palestinians who demand our support...

accept it all the friends of Pakistan in middle east (Kings Sheiks and Shahs) are dead now.
In 65 and 71 war it was Shah of Iran who helped Pakistan along with Jordan and Saudis.

Give me reason and i will accept it....
Plus my question about Kargil war persists
Although i know this has nothing to do with any Israeli general:rofl:

Yes, please. It always intrigues me how Israel would have fared if there was no UN ceasefire and arms were not smuggled in. How bad was the supply situation from the general's personal experience? In "O Jerusalem" by Dominic Lapierre, it was pretty bad. No armor, no air force, no long range arty.

Why r u dreaming with open eyes.... India maintains healthy relations with all muslim countries of the world except Pakistan...and thats too due to kashmir...
