I have not seen anything in british press that suggest british 'care' what happens in hongkong. Obviously if something happens, reporting is natural, just like they report stories from around the world.

Not sure whats problem of chinese with british, we Indians get along well with british. When we dont hold grudge (yeah some of us yell when we need to argue and fight with them) but generally cool.
Wtf is colonialism got to do with 21st century, only a scared nation will think like that. We are looking forward to this century and next, to the future, not too much into past.

HK is internal issue of china. Just like chinese news report shootings in USA, UK news report whats going on in HK. HK does not belong to UK, nobody gives a fcuk if you nuke your own people. It shows your mindset, thats all.

LOOL Maybe you are right, but then again you cant blame just Hong kongers, even Chinese in the mainland also look up to/envy whites/Europeans and look down on people with darker skin/others(we saw an example of that on a thread here about black han chinese.lol). Here is the thing, let me be a devils advocate for the moment, mainlanders are not exactly known for their welcoming stance towards Chinese from other countries. They always look down on others, so let us not blame only the honkies as bearing the responsibility.
Honkies also suffer from the same superiority complex as main landers do, so no one can claim innocence here.

That's what I told my HK friends on the weekend. I told them HK people used to act superior back in the 90s like overseas mainlander. HK people are pissed off mainland Chinese are buying everything, something HK people used to do to show their superiority over Chinese bumpkins.

My friends answer was ,"at least we are not as rude as them.."

The funny thing was when they (HK people) invaded Canada in the 90s, they were extremely rude, just like the people they hate. Buying up properties like no tomorrow. Speaking loudly regardless who was around. It's funny when one is doing it, one does not see it. As someone who was a young man in the 90s, I have seen it all. The only difference is that mainland Chinese can buy on a massive scale that HK people could never do.

When China was closed to outside world, HK was the only "window" for China. From which China did trades with western countries. And HK made big profit from the entrepot trades. As we know there are few manufacture industries in HK. HK's prosperity was based on absorbing blood from mainland. In another word, they got rich from mainland's misery. I don't know for what reason HKers are proud of this. From the moment when mainland opened up and made trades by itself, especially after China joined WTO in 2001，HK is destined to decline. No one can save HK even if the British still governed it.

Lets just say Chinese from Asia are loud, sometimes rude as well. Here I am not generalizing, my wife is Chinese but she lacks all the stereotypical characteristics associated with Chinese. So lets not generalize, at times its just cultural thing.
