Dude that was back in 2010 and Hasina was talking nonsense as BD didnot have the fiscal resources at the time to be able to spend so much money on a unnecessary project.

In 2014, BD has allocated hundreds of millions in the current budget to get the Padma bridge, and the bridge will be built with BD's own internal financial resources within the next 4 years

BD's economy has just grown 6.2% and should be around 7% this year due to the instability of the election out of the way now. As the years pass, BD will be able to build even more projects with it's own money.

Since BD is small, the burden of infrastructure will be smaller for BD than for India and so BD will be able to build infrastructure quicker than India.

India had a 24 year head start over BD and so has been able to build up sufficient capital that over the last decade, it has been able to get funding to build these projects.

Now things are changing for BD and the government is now able to use its own internal resources to build the 2 billion dollar Padma bridge with its own financial resources. Expect as the BD economy keeps growing that many more projects will be started in BD over the next decade and then BD will have infrastructure better than India.

Also - don't forget that nobody from outside India is trying to de-stabilize their govt. while the converse in not true in Bangladesh. These RAW thugs are all over Bangladesh. So much so in fact that Indian morons can boast about de-stabilizing Bangladesh in short order and in such forceful fashion which they earlier could not.

About the railways - they had two hundred years of British rule in India where the British had basically designed their extensive rail infrastructure, right-of-way, communication systems etc. which Indians updated in an incremental fashion since 1947. A large portion of their Rail manufacturing infrastructure was built before 1947. Whereas Bangladesh had to start from scratch after 1971 to build any semblance of a proper railway because railways (unlike India) were essentially ignored before 1971. This is also the same case even today because Bus Transport under private sector gets far more investment and people prefer it over railways.

India may well be the world's fastest growing "free market"economy, but it is no competition to its neighbours when it comes to the social wellbeing of her people.

A comparison with the neighbouring nations shows that besides Pakistan, all others like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and China are far better off in terms of various social welfare indicators.

Even as India's positive growth story makes headlines, it is the second worst performing country in South Asia when it comes to female literacy.

At 74 per cent, India is ranked just above Pakistan where 61 per cent of the women are educated. Even Bangladesh fares better.

And it gets worse.

Among South Asian countries India is probably the worst place to be born in, as the chances of survival till the age of five are much weaker than the chances in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and China. Yet again, we are better off than Pakistan, albeit slightly.

The revelation is not too surprising when 28 per cent of children in India are born underweight as against three per cent in China, 17 per cent in Sri Lanka, 21 per cent in Nepal and 22 per cent in Bangladesh.

This embarrassing performance has come to the fore with the release of a UNICEF report in the Capital on Wednesday.

The study highlights the state of poor children growing up in cities. Statistics on child survival, development and protection paint a very sorry state of India in comparison to its neighbours as well.

Not everyone in India, however, is unfamiliar with this scenario.

The Human Development Report 2011 released by the Institute of Applied Manpower Research (IAMR) (an autonomous body under the Planning Commission) last year had made some shocking revelations on the levels of food insecurity, malnutrition and the dismal health infrastructure of the country.

In January, the Prime Minister called malnourishment among children a "national shame"while releasing a report on hunger and malnutrition.

"It's a shame that in some states of our country the levels of hunger and malnutrition are worse than some sub- Saharan countries. A lot needs to done in terms of social welfare of our children and women,"Shantha Sinha, head of the National Commission for protection of Child Rights, who was present at the launch of the report said.

URBAN POOR NEGLECTED

SHOWING how the cities in India have failed to nurture its poor children, the UNICEF report shatters the common perception that the urban poor are better off than their counterparts in rural areas.

Infant mortality rate for the underprivileged in cities (55 deaths for every 1,000 live births) is not too different from the scenario in rural India (62 deaths for every 1,000 live births).

Anaemia is almost equally prevalent in urban (71 per cent) and rural (72 per cent) children.

But the most embarrassing statistic is on the underweight children in urban areas. Forty seven per cent of urban poor children are born underweight as against 46 per cent in rural India. "Our report shows that growing up poor in a city is much tougher than it is in a village,"K. D. Maiti, planning monitoring and evaluation specialist with Unicef, India said.

Dude - BD economy is very stable and is already providing the funding for the 2 billion dollar plus Padma bridge. Once complete it will be the largest infrastructure project in BD.

Some economic numbers for you to ponder:

1. 2013-2014 GDP growth rate: 6.2%
2. 2013-2014 export growth rate: 11%
3. BD government debt : 18% of GDP when compared to 34% a decade earlier
4. BD government spending: 17% of GDP from 14% a decade earlier.

What is all this data telling us? BD is in a far better financial position to build infrastructure with its own resources now. It will still take soft loans from Japan/IMF/ADB/World bank but will also build infrastructure with its own resources as well.

1.DMRC is a giant in terms of procviding logistical and technikal counsoultancy to many metro projects in india and owtside inida ... with dhka bieng on of them

2. bangladeshies aknowledge DMRCs strenths in tghis field running sucsessfully over loaded and overcrowded and over used and overstressed to limits delhi metro withowt any big issues sucsessfully for almost a decade now

3. but as we all know bangladeshies also love to bellittle indian effort but want "favours" from india too


so in the nut shell its a perfect case of

Look into your auto factory and read the names of the machine and robot and you will know who makes what.

The three countries which actually monopolize auto industry are Germany, Japan, United States and all of them makes industrial robots and use them in their factories. When you reach to that level of expertise then you come here and brag about auto industry. What you are doing can be done here in Bangladesh too. No biggies.

If you know the actual process of ToT you will prefer India. The thread is about Metro and we can provide things of similar quality ISO standard and Bangladeshi standard before time. If you deal with Europe, it will cost you more for the same ISO standard and will take more time to upgrade to Bangladeshi needs. It will be a slow process. Since India has attained this capability 15 years back, we can easily build metros in whole of the south Asia in lesser time and lesser cost.

What do you mean by 24 year head start? Even before 1971 you had your own country as East Pakistan, that time period didn't just vanish from the calender.

So India was under British rule and you guys weren't? Are we learning some new history here?

And stop giving excuses, those old lines built by British were upgraded to broad gauge, modernized, thousands of kilometers of new lines were added, there is nothing British in it now.

And from India also, don't forget the $ 2 billion ($250 million was converted to grants) soft loan from us.

Are Indians now denying that Pakistan was exploiting BD in the 1947-1971 period?:lol:

Dude one of the main reasons the old Pakistan broke up was that BD export revenue was being used to build up Pakistan and not being fairly shared.

India is not a patch on BD economically. Let us see just how much quicker BD grows this financial compared to India.
