What's new

Divine laws are more relevant for modern societies.

I think you're confusing teenage sexual infatuation with adultery. Adultery happens with married couples, and is a crime.

http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/03/south-korea-adultery-law-repeal/386603/

1: Adultery is actually a criminal offense; you can get 4 years in prison and 500$ fines in the United States. Combined with other criminal offenses such as "Lewd and lascivious behavior" it can reach up to much more charges. Adultery is criminalized in most countries; In India you can go up to 5 years in prison for adultery even if you are unmarried. In South and South East Asia, South America, and Africa you can be killed by a mob or family members for adultery. But Islam is much more merciful - all it asks is for you to ask for forgiveness from God and your wife; if not - than you must be punished.

2: Hindus in India practice more polygamy than Muslims - despite it being banned for Hindus. Polygamy is allowed in Muslim countries but under the same rules and regulations that Shariat put forth - these include :
- ONLY IF YOUR FIRST WIFE APPROVES
- Must have separated and equal property for each wife.
- Must spend equal time with each wife.
- Must treat each wife with the same respect and love.
- No favoritism.
- Wives must approve and cannot be forced to either marry or allow Husband to marry another wife.
- ect...

Less than 1-2% of the Muslim population practice polygamy most of whom come from South Asia. Polygamy was only enacted because of God’s concern for the welfare of women and orphans who were left without husbands and fathers who died fighting for the Prophet and for Islam. It is a verse about compassion towards women and their children; it is not about men or their sexuality.

3: Your third claim shows me how much you truly know about history and this topic. Islam has existed as a political state many times; people of different tribes, languages, nations, ethnicity, and cultures were all united under one banner and religion. Unrest in Jordan and Hejaz began as a result of nationalist reforms which circled around 'Turks'; this resulted in Nationalism taking a foothold in every corner of the Ottoman Empire - most minorities began thinking of an independent state based on their culture or ethnicity. This can be highlighted from the Kurdish conflict. The first to break off were the Balkan countries. Also here is a fun fact - most Arabs fought against the Arab revolt than those who fought for it. Only two provinces to burst into an Arab revolt was Kingdom of Hejaz and Hashemite Kingdoms. Apostasy rule is barely enforced in countries.

1. give me example of any case in past couple of decades where anyone has been jailed in India or US for adultery .

2. Give me stats . Polygamy is a crime for Hindus in India . Plus "permission " from your first wife is such a massive BS . Any wife willingingly wont share Husband unless she is mentally retarded .

3. There was never never a single shiny green banner of Islam . Even in "golden period" multiple green shiny banners were fighting with each other .

We all know Sharia will be wonderful when it is implemented, there is no doubt, since Islam is claimed to be perfect. But how do we get a whole society to agree upon what exactly does Sharia mean in terms of laws to be implemented that will work for everyone? Can we get a body of ulema together to agree on a set of common Sharia Law?

:))))))))))))))) only if there are any ulema. with political/sectarian mullahs you can't implement real sharia since real sharia will lead to accountibillity of all kinds of 'ulema' too

"Real" Sharia is only what can be implemented, not what is claimed. Besides, the ulema are quite content being controlled by the "angels" as useful tools to keep the population suitably deluded, so there will be no accountability for them, either.

Instead of making fun of what @Ammara Chaudhry is trying to do, why not try and build on it people? Quran and Bible et al have been made
There is flexibility in Islam and it does talk about change in law as per the need of time. But as long as the purpose of the law is not being changed. :)

you see the problem here? who will decide which change is good and bad? and any change negates the claim that it is the 'perfected final'.
And you have skipped the question about why you think it applies to the whole world when it was simply meant for yatbir/mecca?

Sir, this charter took place in early time period of Islam. And at that time only people of Mecca and Madina(Yastib) were Muslims for the most part. So, it was implemented on them. Because they were representatives of Islam and Muslim in whole. Later on when Islam started to spread all over the places, it was implemented on them as well since it was the best form of government back then. (Time period of Umar (RA) must be mentioned here. He was one of the caliph after the death of prophet Muhammad (SAW), just so you know). Remember it was not imposed, but they chose to rule their states with shariah law.
Again, I have to repeat myself here. Islam doesn't enforce it. Quran doesn't specifically talk about any form of government a gives the freedom to chose one. Unfortunately, today we have mixed up Islam with culture of Muslim countries.

Social inequality, injustice? The world is definitely not just, because there are many people out there who don't care for ethics and will walk all over you. Religion won't change that, humans need to change it.

And religions teach humans about humanity. And humanity is all this world needs today. :)

Such questions are up to each person to answer for themselves. What is clear that religion belongs in the personal domain and must never be imposed by the State as often demanded.

100 instructions in Quran for us all:

100 instructions in Quran for Muslims.

Eh! Divine Laws? When there is no proof for even divinity?

Laws are useless without enforcement and a punishment/reward matrix.

In 21st century it is silly to talk about these things - @Spring Onion is correct when it says that they should at best be considered as soft guidance. No biggie if you don't take the guidance.

Sir, Allah calls himself "Rab Ul Almeen" and Rasool Allah (SAW) is "Rehmat Ul Almeen".
For both Allah doesn't say 'Ul Muslameen' but 'Almeen' and I'm sure you know the difference.
In second verse of sura Baqara the Quran says it is without doubt guidance for muttaqeen. To properly benefit from the Quran you have to be pious. Otherwise western Orientalist too study the Qur'an but their sole purpose is to nauzbillah find faults in it.

You have to be pious? It makes you pious though and then many of us should stop reciting Quran. Because we all are not pious. Is that what you trying to say?

What is the translation of the first ayah of Surah Baqrah? This word doesn't have any translation, only Allah knows it. But still few scholars and few Shahbiah gave the meaning to these words. You need to know one thing here, one of the scholar Fakhar Udeen Razi commented on it and says, Allah told us to thought to us to ask for guidance in previous Surah. (اهدِنَــــا الصِّرَاطَ المُستَقِيمَ) this ayah.
Surah Baqrah begins with guidance (ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ).

This ayah means, if you come to this book with attitude of arrogance you get nothing. But if you submit your intellect to Allah's word, you will understand it better. Non believers can also read it with submitting to the words and get benefited. :)

What you have said above is a personal belief, held by Muslims. I am sure you can see the difference too.

Personal beliefs held by Muslim? These words are quranic words sir. :)
