What's new

Difficult times facing Pakistan Railways employees

Correctional steps for Pakistan Railways

First Two Years

a) Lease Locomotives 40 instead of purchase
b) Get new uniforms for Railway employees , brand change and new look
c) Paint all Railway stations
d) Make sure 100% trains run on schedule and time

Next 3 years

a) Get Chinese consultants to come and develop plan for efficiency , and management
b) But 20 new locomotives , and build 4-5 locomotives in Pakistan
c) Move Attendance , and payroll online for all Railway employees to control illegal payments of workers who don't show up for work
d) Bring in Online Ticketing for Ticket purchase online for business class

Year 4th
Bring in consultants from US/Europe non permanent workers

a) Help improve cost and expenses
b) Help improve customer satisfaction
c) Help with marketing efforts
d) Remove paper and pencil culture and bring in computers for sales and bills issuance

I read some where there were 80,000 workers in Railways

I think what they need to do is retire 30,000 workers who are over 50 years old, and hire new graduates
who are 18 years or 20 years old. Take less salaries

And also work on correctional means

Railways are needed

a) To move goods cheaper rates
b) To move poor population who can't afford airplane tickets
c) Bus and Airplanes cost alot of petrol / gas , and that is wasted
d) Cheaper route for goods equals cheaper food for public
e) Also more surplus oil in public's hand

1. How would leasing help over outright purchase?

2. 80,000 employees times Rs 2,000 per uniform = 160 million rupees.

3. Do you want to price out the bids for that repainting project?

4. How will the trains on time with existing rolling stock, signalling equipment and track condition?

I read a news article , Pakistani government released 6 billion rupees fro railways , and the railway head stated

"THANK YOU I think we are covered now for salaries what about the help you promised"

See the problem ? I see it

When I read that statement I was not happy man - another thing the new head came in power recently the other guy conveniently left took his share and he is free .....

Pakistani corruption is happening because of paper and pencil culture and no role for Accounting companies in stopping corruptions

Alot of workers collect money even if they are dead or many who don't show up for work still get paid as there is no accountability

1 Guy declares himself for 3-4 posts and gets 3-4 salaries .. because there is no one to audit this

We need to seriously hang 20-100 corrupt corporate heads and Pakistan public gets in line after 20-100 of them are brought to justice

LEASE :
Cost is 20% of cost of purchase
80% You use the funds to pay for operations and build new locomotives in Pakistan
Workers see money they work , others who don't work or who are too old are released

PURCHASE :
You use all funds
Someone gets a cut and he disappears
No money left to pay workers
Workers are not interested in working if they get no pay strikes
Loss of revenue

its because of 99.9% of railway employs and officers are corrupt it will be great to shut down this cancer .its not transport but gate of huge corruption . they fukin use in engines used oil what the hell is this shameless job they kill there own engines for few ruppes bloody bastards .

So can you get an international bid process to supply those locomotives within the lease terms that you suggest?

In my view, private parties should be allowed to operate the trains owned by them. Railway just get the rent for infrastructure being provided to those private parties. Like private airlines use the same airport / facilities of CAA like PIA.

Yes, Imran, but not all can afford Daewoo. Like they charge for karachi to lahore around 3000, and in train you can reach lahore for just 500 - 600 only. We need to cure the disease, while you are talking about killing the patient.

No, what I am talking about is to allow private organizations to operate the rails 'owned by them' on the present infrastructure of PR. It will be a sort of semi private type mechanism. They will just be paying service charges for using all the rail facilities owned by PR. That will include the per km charges for railway lines, stoppage charges on stations etc..

yes and then these railway looters will make corruption in services and we pay from our own money to that companies for services . there is only one and single way sold all the railway to some company and forget it . just keep railway land save so gov will sold it or use it for other purpose . there is no any other way sir to save our money from looters .its now part of there blood to make corruption just read the railway history once .

Pakistan Railways loss reaches Rs 15 billion, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour told the National Assembly that Pakistan Railways faced loss of Rs 15.03 billion during the fiscal year 2007-08. In a written reply, the minister told the Lower House of the Parliament that the department generated the income of Rs 19.2 billion while the expenditures mounted to Rs 34.3 billion, causing the loss of Rs 15.03 billion during the fiscal year 2007-08.

He said the ministry would bring reforms in the railways sectors which include computerization of another 11 reservation offices, replacement of first sleeper class with lower AC, introduction of new imported coaches in mail and express trains and curtailing the journey time by removing many engineering restrictions.

Responding to a question regarding supply of any faulty locomotives from China, he said the issue was examined at different forums and Senate Standing Committee also recommended that China should be given preference for import of locomotives in future.

He said during the last three years, the ministry did not sign any contract agreement for importing railways engines, carriages and signaling system. However, 38 locomotives and 37 passenger coaches were imported from 2005 to 2007.

The members expressed their concerns over the statement that Pakistan Railways carried only 7.234 million tones of freight traffic during 2007-08 which is only four percent of total freight traffic.

In response, Parliamentary Secretary Railways Noman Islam Sheikh said to increase the volume of freight traffic, the ministry would induct high speed and high capacity freight wagons, ensure better interaction with business community, promote public-private partnership, introduce online tracking system and would complete doubling of track.

To another question, the minister told the House that for senior citizens, Pakistan Railways allows 50 percent concession in economy class and 25 percent in all AC classes.

He said the ministry would shortly complete doubling of tracks, adding that financial constraints hinder pace of development work.

It is all plan to sell this giants to get huge kickbacks. Someone was telling me that if railway is sold for 'lohay kay bhao' then it will generate budget of Pakistan for five years..

Lets see when this giant is sold off on same terms like KESC.

Why not break the PR in different sections and privatize it.
