What's new

Did Sheikh Hasina actually meet the Indian Foreign Secretary ? All signs point to a NO.

That is the uncertainty, that exist inside all of us, when we think about Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is like a bus, where none of the passengers know how to drive.

Heading towards the unknown since it's inception, it's a miracle we always escape unscathed, but this whole 'riding our luck' is unsustainable.

Last time around we managed a leader like Mujeeb out of sheer luck. God knows what lies ahead.

It's the system we have established, two dynasties and an opportunist charal (Ershad) took control of BD politics while the democratic institutions failed. There is no democracy within the major political parties either. I just don't see how it's going to work out after Hasina.

My thoughts exactly.

You and I as expatriates, can only hope and pray for the best, but the people in Bangladesh don't seem to be too worried, they're busy trying to learn the lyrics for the latest romantic song Bollywood chugs out, in an attempt to bed some girl.

Taposh seems to me like a strong leader from what I’ve seen. I know wats been said about Sheikh Hasina, I feel her leadership is being over exaggerated. Mind you, we live in 2020 not 1980. If we look at the world around us it’s scary how fast they have moved forward in terms of social welfare.

we live in a world where the gap between a first world country and a developing country grows like a bullet train with each passing day. Hasina has used different methods to stay in power. Nd I think it’s pretty over rated In many cases. She has let her cronies rule so that they can back her up in case of law enforcement disobedience. Also set up chosen yes men in the police and the military Nd we know how much those yes men make.

We haven’t had a Man leading this country for such a long time. Having a Low life like obaydul qader who is uneducated and also a coward to as the PM wud sustain this cronyism. He will be everybody’s puppet. It takes only a glance to see wat obaydul qader is made of. And he comes from a seriously unworthy background. He is not even worthy of being made an MP LET ALONE A PM. Momen is a lousy man.

Taposh on the other hand seems tough, so that cud be a good choice cuz I don’t think he will give a fudge about cronyism and flattery. He will not please anyone but do watever he wants.

Also it might be good altogether if we can get out of this circle of dynasties. This dynasty thing has destroyed the whole nation. Perhaps putting an end to this circle may finally bring a golden dawn for this country

Yes, dynasty must end.

We need a leader like Lee Kuan Yew or dare I say Churchill? I seriously want to see a man (masculine gender), and not a low life man. It's been too long we have been under women leadership. Need some testosterone in the mix.

Taposh doesn't have what it takes to lead a country, he's naive and his coming to power will be a continuation of nepotism and dynastic politics.

It's unfortunate that all the good nationalistic male politicians who are actually capable of running a nation are languishing in BNP under a useless khaleda.

Be it Mirza Fakhrul, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi or Gono Forum's Kamal Hossain, they're all with a party that will never come to power due to various reasons.

If only we could have a reform in the political parties of Bangladesh, or a new party with all these heavyweights from BNP and BAL together.

Never going to happen....

BAL has nothing left to offer, no good politicians besides Hasina, who can deny this ?

And BNP is rotten to the core and it will never win despite having good politicians...

People like LKY are not born in Bangladesh, Bangladesh can't shape such people with strong integrity....

We had a Mujeeb and that's all, we all know, what they did to him.

You see a nation probably has to go through the cycles of civilization building. We are at a certain stage of civilization, the advanced nations had gone through the same phase at some point in history, maybe we can't escape it, we must also go through that. A gifted leader may accelerate the process. People are just being people, the way they should be in our current phase of development.

Mujeeb was the most appropriate leader for leading the independence struggle. He was not a good administrator IMO but that doesn't take away anything from him. People can't be all rounders. If only Tajuddin became the PM after '71 and remained for 20 years.

I agree. Men like fakhrul are diamond in the rough, rough for them being in a useless party like BNP.

And if u speak of the Awami league, I don’t see a single guy that Can be trusted with leadership. Obaydul Qader is the biggest nightmare. The most apparent low life in the history of politics. I don’t like Joy either. I know nothing of sheikh rehana, but her governance wud be almost the same as Hasina. What do u think of Tulip Or whoever is a British mp ? Is there anyway she Can contest In Bangladesh?

my bet is on the military to seize power after Hasina. They know the ppl are more sheepish than ever before. With the SHEIKH (The name being the real power) gone if Hasina was to step down, I think they probably reckon they can take over easily.

Tulip has no chance in Bangladesh, She is a British citizen, she knows nothing of Bangladesh.

The thing to note here is, We all known Hasina came to power through unfair practices, This is an established fact.

Even so, It still looks believable because Hasina has had a long political career where she has been elected in "Fair" elections i.e. she has what it takes to get elected; Public Opinion and support.

Nobody else in Bangladesh Awami League has that appeal, So If they come to power through a facade of an election, the people will riot and the International community will put pressure on them to step down.

BAL has no future beyond Hasina, BNP has a future but only, If they distance themselves from the Zia Family.

I can see Mirza contesting and comfortably winning the next elections, If it is fair, He has the support to even contest against Hasina and still win. Same with Kamal Hossain and also similar story with Rizvi to a lesser extent.

See, the public knows these people, these guys are the longstays of Bangladesh politics, its exactly why BAL couldn't disappear these guys, they tried to nail Mirza but the guys cleaner than white paper.

I don't know what happens post 2023 elections, BAL can't win without Hasina, If its a fair election and It will be, the alternative is chaos.

BNP will win, but only If they remove the Zias, which remains to be seen.

In the next three years, we will see big moves from BNP, they will reform and come anew so to speak, the future of Bangladesh is funnily in BNP's Hands.

BAL will try to reform but fail, they have no leaders, which makes me think Hasina will break her promise and contest once again after some drama.

If that's the case then it will be Tareq chora, I assure you. The curse of dynastic politics won't leave BD anytime soon.

You have to give it to Hasina. She’s playing hard to get probably for benefits in the next election
What is your point can you elaborate? People always say that she takes Indiana side to get benefits from election. Now you are saying that he is showing hardnline against India to get benefit from election.

But all of us know that every election will be rigged election in Bangladesh.

So what's the point of such assumption? Come on !
