Request a unpassionate discussion.
I believe the article is discussing the mk1. I believe that caused the mk1 to be discontinued. There may have been technical problems which may have been rectified later

The migs were downed by Anza where as the Mi-8 was scored by a stinger.
One of the migs was said to be an engine flame out. The second one was reportedly by an Anza-II.

Pakistan claims both were shot down, India claims that the mig-21 was lost due to engine flame out. In any case Anza downed the migs or at least a single mig.

Was it an Anza-I or Anza-II that was used to shoot it(them) down?
The discussion here is about failure of Anza-I.

PAF officer Kaiser who was Director of Operations during Kargil himself has admitted that one and not two IAF jets were shot down by SAMs.
MiG-27 went down due to engine trouble caused by gun gas ingestion.

The salient feature of this initial phase was strafing and rocketing of the intruders’ positions by MiG-21, MiG-23BN and MiG-27. All operations (except air defence) came to a sudden standstill on 28 May, after two IAF fighters and a helicopter were lost – a MiG-21 and a Mi-17 to Pak Army surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), while a MiG-27 went down due to engine trouble caused by gun gas ingestion during high altitude strafing. (Incidentally, the pilot of the MiG-27 Flt Lt Nachiketa, who ejected and was apprehended, had a tête-à-tête with this author during an interesting ‘interrogation’ session.)

You do not know how many anza were fired- that didnt stop the poster from asking the question-
All i care about is that 2 Migs crashed during operation with little to no resistance from PAF or our air defence systems-
No resistance because F16 got painted red again and again by BVRs while F7 were sitting ducks.
