Dhaka vs Kolkata

Good! I am amazed to see however that China fell back to 6%.

These things change all the time it seems. Couple of months later - different story...

CNN probably just averages projections from various other sources...hence the constant changing as more "forecasts" are released.

World Bank and IMF have the hard consistent data that I would trust somewhat more, but even they can be quite conservative. Also they actually have professional econometric researchers/developers unlike CNN which is just a newsgroup.

It is not impossible for India and Bangladesh to be growing more than 8 or 9 % + range in the coming years. I mean look at the growth that China has been able to achieve in the past.

China growth is falling because they are so much bigger now, its literally impossible to grow at the rates before as the economy gets closer to its LRAS and fewer unexploited resources at given tech level are available.

The big issue with them is regarding whether the overcapacity will hurt them and whether the various bubbles can be deflated smoothly rather than suddenly in the next 10 or so years....because they have been super heavy into construction just to keep employment up.

.
LOL making a prediction about 2019 right now to the precision of 0.1%?

Iraq at 9.2% growth? Was this prediction made before ISIS?

Anyways they seem to have revised their estimates now:

The new global economy - CNNMoney

India stands at 7.7% comfortably till 2020 according to them. Bangladesh at 7.0%.

And they use Angola's flag for myanmar, or they have labelled Angola as Myanmar.

Either way real professional there CNN!

You poured a bucketful of cold water on Bangladeshi hot fantasy!:rofl::rofl:

It is not fantasy as everyone knows.

India and Bangladesh can both realistically grow at over 7.5% and like @Nilgiri said 8~9% is not unlikely.

Bangladesh is a bit behind the curve because we have inept leadership and they did not realize the criticality of infrastructure improvement as a precursor to high rate of industrialization.

Poor infrastructure and political unrest has been hurting GDP growth in BD.

Expect growth to pick up to 7-8% levels by end of this decade and up to 8-9% a year by mid-2020s.

Are you expecting a better leadership in Bangladesh anytime soon? Who that person might be? Sheikh Hasina is the best you have.

This is actually a very interesting point. Outside of the two power hungry women, who exactly do the Bangladeshi members here see as being a solid development-based technocrat+reform friendly local leader? (lets say with experience of running a city or district or govt ministry and is good potential/leadership material). They can be from any of the parties in Bangladesh of course.

It is of course easy to say professor Yunus, but lets stick to BAL and BNP only....since that is the more pragmatic likelihood somewhat unfortunately.

Or is it going to be purely a dynasty instead of meritocracy in Bangladeshi politics for forseeable future....and if so...which of these successors are likely to be the most pro-development instead of just being typical goon?

Bhai if Indians are trolling and giving wrong facts why can't I do the same?

Because you my friend come from a better lineage of people with stronger values.

We also have to differentiate between Indians and trolls. India is a big place.

Not all Indians are trolls....and vice versa.

And you don't have to stoop so low or troll to prove a point.

No need to do tit-for-tat. Have some pride and ignore them. :-)

You have come to the forum to learn something and maybe have some fun while you're at it.

Trolls come here only to put others down to feel better about themselves. They are cowards that hide behind a keyboard -safe from reprisals. Most of all - they are COWARDS.

Dynastic politics seems to be it going forward. In fact it was going to be the trend for the whole subcontinent. Witness Bilawal Bhutto, Rahul Gandhi etc.

Our choices are actually better than the rest of the subcontinent as far as new blood in politics. A lot of people might not like him but Sajeeb Wazed (Joy) - who is Hasina's Son is an excellent future choice (starting out as a technocrat), but he's also just getting started in politics.

Also - Andaleeve Rahman is a promising Lincoln's Inn trained Barrister who is being groomed. there are a few other leaders as well. For the new generation of tech-savvy internet generation one needs new leaders, not old guards.

But this is off topic, we can discuss this in a separate thread. And I am no politico either.

Dhaka's current airport is very old and looks horrible. GoB is planning to build a new $7 billion Bangabandhu Airport. Maira La believes it's gonna be the best in South Asia.
Fortunately it seems Govt have backtracked from the Bangabandhu airport project and concentrated on renovating and expanding the Shah Jalal airport. I am against spending 7 billion USD in just one airport when we have other more pressing infrastructure need. Now govt. have decided to expand Shah Jalal airport at the cost of 1.57 billion USD.They are planning to built 3rd terminal building on the model of Singapore Changi airport.:-)

Andaleev Rahman seems very promising, his speeches in parliament are very good.

His father Naziur Rahman Monju stole half of Ershad's stolen fortune. He is also known as big VOIP businessman. Besides he is the son in law of Sheikh family.
