Dhaka overtakes Karachi on "Liveability Index 2022"

Karachi developed a lot , who says it does not ? If you visit Karachi u will find a lot of infrastructure development and signal free roads , underpasses , fly overs and a very nicely built Lyari expressway which take you from one corner of city to the other corner in few minutes without any issue/ hurdle . Green bus project is about to complete and it is again a very remarkable project and would bring change in public transport facilitation . So to say that Karachi is not developed would be wrong in fact

Thanks for a balanced and impartial assessment.

Karachi will still be a cleaner city and its infrastructure better than BD in 2022.

We need to understand that this index is not just about cleanliness and infrastructure of a city as Tehran is on the bottom 10 list.

Muslim countries would come naturally more down the list than others that allow nighclubs etc.

@Bengal71

This is Gulistan e Jauhar, Karachi, a high density area of apts mostly. With some blocks having bungalows.

.
Parts of Dhaka like the Gulshan business area is very modern, with midrises office buildings to taller 28-32 stories high.

Yes many parts of Dhaka are congested, in the sense that population density is higher than Karachi. Certainly more green than Karachi and a Metro being constructed there. Karachi has just started a few BRTS corridors.

Karachi is widespread, wider roads, residential areas with huge bungalows are not that present in Dhaka.

Karachi high end residential areas are clean and well planned, open.

But there is no public transport.

No it's of Clifton Ist pic. The second pic is of sea view apts, with DHA (some blocks) behind. DHA Karachi has better looking luxurious homes, but the planning is not that good compared with Clifton, or other areas planned by KDA(Khi dev. authority).

This is North. Nazimabad Karachi, look at the space for the main rd., now a BRTS is constructed there as the central median space was availabe and no structure has to be demolished. The area behind the apts are with better homes with gardens. A middle(apartment living) to upper middle area(Bungalow living), to put it subtly.

OK, Osaka makes it in the top 10, it is superior to Tokyo.
But I'm not sure why other asian cities don't make it in, no Busan, Da Nang, or Hangzhou?

.
So Harare in Zimbabwe fares better than both Dacca and Karachi. That really makes sense.
It is actually a English city in home counties only that it has better climate. Why? The clue is lies in the fact that it was called Salisbury until last three decades.

Nice. I watch photos and videos of different cities of the world all the time. Google street view is the best thing that happened to me, I do virtual tourism, haha. Can't see Pakistani or Indian cities though. But from videos of the streets, roads, bazars Pakistan looks very similar to BD culture wise, I don't mean infrastructure wise, you guys are ahead in that aspect. I feel if I visit Pakistan, apart from the language and different facial feature/skin colour of people, I won't feel much of a difference.

Exactly the same story for me. The more people initially appear to be different, the more similar they proved.

There is reason for that. For Pakistan Google is not bothered as it has little interest across the globe or in the West. India though has enormous brand image and attraction in the West. In addition given that Google has deep connections with India by now we would have street view. But we don't.

I suspect if they there was India would be exposed with all the filth and overcrowding. Thus until Modi does a make ove of India New Delhi will block Google and I believe it has blocked Google despite attempts.

On the other hand much respect to Bangla because I checked out it you guys have street view.

Bahria Town Karachi, when fully habitated, the Town can have a population of 1 million, Spread over 20 sq. miles. About 28 Km from Karachi.

Developed by Malik Riaz, the most crooked man and the richest too. All real estate developers are called corrupt though. He is paying about 460 billion Rs. to Pak govt. as fined by Supreme Court as he got the land in huge discounted price initially.

There are plenty of Banglas and Biharis in Karachi so there is no differance other than climate. Karachi is not a 'city' in the traditional sense. It's just a huge refuge with 'camps' spread out clustered along ethnic lines. Almost everybody is from somewhere else - India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Punjab, KPK etc.

I don't think it's google's decision not to include India or Pakistan. More likely it's the Indian and Pakistani establishment blocked google from doing that because of security concerns. I tried Egypt also, same story, can't see.

Our Karachi city location alone is better than your capital squashed in by all sides

Karachi city sits on the Persian coast ocean with Arab peninsula just up the road. As said before many times here, Pakistan as a whole is the most strategically placed country in the region.

I wasn't talking about Karachi or Bengalis. I was talking about Pakistan in general. Culturally we are similar I feel. When I look up photos of Pakistani cities (as I can't see streetview), I look for things like people's behavior such as how the paan and cigarette shops look like, how the guys parked their motorbikes in front of tea stalls, how the billboards look like, how posters and bills are stuck on the walls, how chaotic the traffic is, how carelessly people are crossing the roads while on the phone, how a bunch of schoolgirls wearing their school dresses walking to school (school dress is same as BD), how a shop keeper is sitting on his stool in his shop and there is a small wall fan facing him and the types of commodities in the shelves , how there are kebabs being hung from hooks in kebab shops etc. From those things I derive that apart from the language and racial/ethnic/facial/colour difference I probably would not feel much of a difference.
