Dhaka metrorail station designs finalized

When the minister was talking about sixteen stations in the first phase he may have been talking about the MRT 4 phase. MRT 6 has about twelve stations.

The rendering resembles a small and usual Japanese commuter railway station. You may be correct of the minister Obaidul Quader confused MRT-6 project with MRT-4 project. Anyway, it will be wonderful to see the commuter trains run every 3.5 minutes each way carrying 60,000 passengers/hr at the peak morning and evening hours.

When is completion due for first phase ?

How many people do Lahore, Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi metros carry per hour at this time ?

This may be the reason why Nippon Koei INDIA has been selected instead of Nippon Koei JAPAN as the main Consultant. Among various works, the job of a Consultant company requires it to draft the basic drawings, based on which design and construction drawings will be prepared. Nippon Koei India's Indian engineers should have good knowledge about their jobs because they must have done similar works in Indian projects.

That was one strange comment coming from a Bangladeshi, but anyways, much appreciated. :) And that's why DMRC would be good also. :-)

Why such plain and simple walls? You can consider some murals etc. on the walls.

So we're talking 60000 people per hour then? If so that'll go a long way to clear up the traffic jam. Also does anyone know:

How many people do Lahore, Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi metros carry per hour at this time ?

The approximate daily ridership of Delhi metro is 24,00,000, Bangalore metro is 500,000, and Kolkata metro is 650,000, don't know about Mumbai metro, it is too new, but I saw an estimate of 15,00,000. All the metro networks are expanding rapidly and the figures will increase going forward. Btw, Lahore has a metro rail service? Afaik they only have a BRT system.

Here Delhi metro has 2.5 million per day. Don't know about bangalore, mumbai. Lahore don't have metro.

I wonder if we get some sort of ToT in this project. If our engineers could get help and experience, i am certain this will not be the last metrorail system this country builds.

Well, the project will be controlled by Nippon Koei's Indian office, but they are definitely employing Japanese officials. Check the pics in the link damiendehorn posted earlier. Here is one:

As for ToT, it's definitely under the contract since the metro rail will be owned and operated by the state owned Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd. Also, a Bangladeshi company Development Design Consultants Ltd is part of the consortium of consultants for this project.

No, the first phase is surely MRT-6. Check this: Metro rail tender in Dec: Quader | New Age

There will also be 16 stations — Uttara North, Uttara Central, Uttara South, Pallabi, IMT, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Taltala, Agargaon, Bijoy Sharani, Farmgate, Sonargaon Hotel, National Museum, Doyel Chattar, Bangabandhu National Stadium and Bangladesh Bank — for the MRT Line-6.

MRT 6 has 16 stations while MRT 4 has 18 stations.

In case of BD no one really knows for sure about the schedule of works. Newspapers quotes different persons who speak different schedules. Hopefully, the works will start at the end of this year.

But, one bottleneck must be resolved before that. Many AL petty leaders are resisting to give up their land for the route. Govt must be strict with them. I have full faith in the capability of no-nonsense minister Obaidul Quader.

And none too soon either. The traffic problem and gridlock in the main thoroughfares is taking on a ridiculous dimension. I was astonished to learn that it takes more than one hour to go from Gulshan 1 to Gulshan 2 during rush hour. I could walk to and fro twice during that time for that distance of less than two or three miles..

Some Bangladeshis are so lazy - what's wrong with walking? Why not ban the Rickshaws on this route?

I believe all three routes combined will definitely see ridership of over 2 Million daily.

Obaidul Qader just like any other minister in the cabinet have no authority over anything significant, the ministers can't even transfer a petty joint secretary. Hasina is the supreme leader.

I believe these are preliminary drawings - I'm sure there will be some decorative elements added after the fact. After all - Sheikh Hasina has to add this as one of her 'achievements' :lol:

As I noted above - all three lines combined will probably see Dhaka Metro service over 2 million souls daily. How many routes does Delhi have (considering Dhaka has three planned)? I believe its a wider area for the Delhi routes as well...

Yes, Delhi metro is a vast network, currently it is 193 kms and by 2021 it will be 413 kms network, check the links below. Btw, Delhi metro seems to have 2.4 million daily ridership, @Kinetic mentioned it to be 2.5 million, could be true. Anyways, metro is the most comfortable, fastest, & pollution-free city transit system, it will also clear up traffic on the roads. BD should go for it asap.

Btw, Kolkata metro will be 120 kms by 2018, total 6 routes, one will pass 460 meter below the riverbed of river Ganges. Kolkata got India's first metro back in 1984, and now she will get India's first underwater metro. :)

I would prefer Nippon Koei to bring in their subsidiaries in ASEAN countries, which will be as cheap as India, but more efficient. That is just my personal opinion, but I will accept the decision of the Japanese govt. or companies.
