BSF to train BGB in India

The Indian Border Security Force will impart training to Border Guard Bangladesh at BSF training academy in India, officials said on Tuesday.
‘The BSF offered us 18 training courses and taking permission from the government, we will send our personnel for four courses,’ the Border Guard Bangladesh director general, Major General Aziz Ahmed, told New Age at his office.
‘Now we are discussing how and when our officers will be joining the training programme,’ he added.
The border guard chief said that the Indian side primarily selected training courses on border management, bomb disposal and dog handling for both officers and junior commissioned officers.
He said that border guard members would be sent by November for the training and claimed that it would help strengthen ‘relations’ between the border guards of the two neighbours.About the bomb disposal training, Aziz said that the border guard would be trained on explosives smuggled through the borders.Replying to a query, he said that permission for the training would definitely be taken from the home ministry.
He, however, said that both the border forces had already joint exercise programmes.
‘Earlier in April, five lieutenant colonels and majors took part in two-week border management training in India,’ Aziz said adding, ‘Indian BSF personnel had already visited Bangladesh.’He made the remarks after returning from New Delhi on Tuesday attending the 39th border co-ordination conference ended on Monday.
Dhaka University international security professor M Shahiduzzman told New Age that the initiative was a basic change in the concept of border management and security. ‘The concept of friend and enemy has been shifted,’ he added.
