Despite frantic effort by Lockheed Martin India ditches F-21 for LCA

India Ditched US war against China as well.
India was never really on-board with that war.

I’ve brought this up in the past as well - India is not going to enter a conflict with China, or any other country, on behalf of the US.

The US goal of using India as a hedge against China was a pie in the sky dream from the beginning. India leveraged that US pipe dream to get various concessions and US support on critical issues very well though.

Pres Duterte was right when he stated---agreements with the US don't mean anything nowadays---.
India should have felt right at home then, because agreements with India have never meant much either — whether it’s Indian commitments to the UNSC Resolutions on Kashmir or the threats to undo the IWT or their violation of the Simla Agreement.

Rafale is coming this July with Meteor onboard.
1 or 5 Rafales that too will take few years for proper induction. Not exactly a threat until 20 30 of them come at a time. Also meteor is unproven as of now. AMRAAM was in use since 90s I think.

its a shame the Tejas didn't show up on the 27th of February 2019

it would have made the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot look like kindergarten stuff

Tejas is a hopeless fighter

On the positive note, Pakistan has some breathing space now and can focus entirely on Project Azm if PAF top brass didn't sabotaged it.
But India too outplayed not only US but French too and showed they ain't to be monopolized. USA had a greater game with Indians which they sabotaged. USA could have bought Indians to kneel before them only by controlling their AF (they already have high stakes in Indian Defence equipment and this deal could have been practically like playing right into uncle SAM's hand).

Interesting development indeed. Have no idea how American military industrial complex and power circles will translate this Indian move. IAF most probably go for additional Rafale and 83 LCAs. Logically, this makes the perfect sense. Rafale 's initial deal will bring in necessary training, infrastructure, weapons package etc. So IAF can spent 9 Billion USD on approximately 42-48 additional French deltas. Now, LCA is relying on American engine and many other systems where US can exert pressure.

As for PAF, this is just a temporary relief for us but invaluable. Even if IAF goes for additional Rafale, that deal will take more time to deliver and by that time, Block III will be available. Apart from that, I am also hearing on twitter that most powerful J-10 family member is about to make first appearance. So finger crossed.

PAF must not go for Block-70/72 now as potential deal with India has collapsed. We must stick to our project. We never know, US first sell us Block-70 and tomorrow cut a deal with IAF for some F-35s.

Can you share the twitter of the J-10 news and copy me in it. I wonder what the new enhancements will be.

I think there is also a lot of politics involved. Indians feel betrayed by Trump. The Indians wanted primary role in Afghanistan, but instead are playing second fiddle. The Modi regime had high hopes after Trump got elected. They were convinced that Trump would isolate and boycott Pakistan into oblivion. It hasn't happened as the Indians had envisaged. The Americans haven't even been able to place Pakistan on FATF blacklist. Something the Modi regime has been yearning for. Basically disappointment from the Indian side. After 27th India was hoping for full support from its ally, but it did not come. The Americans responded lukewarm and even dispelled the notion that F-16s were missing. Trump has gone to extreme length to protect economy. The Indians were expecting a lot of concessions like in previous years under Obama.
Indians were up for a rude awakening which is what they got under Indian Phraand Dolun Trump

All this chest thumbing and jumla bazi is to fool Indians.
There is no way in hell that India can rely on Teja variants to counter and face Pakistan and China, at least for foreseeable future.

Indigenous designed and build Tejas is heavily dependent on foreign parts.

If there was any hope from project Tejas, Modi would have said, " Agar Teja hota to....." but we all know the truth.

Indians like to hear and feel proud of bol bachan and jumlas, India wins always, every time and in every thing....and Modi ji knows which tune to play and how to play dugdggi .....

There is a huge change in military thinking in India for the last few years.
-Appointment of CDS
-Strategic area commands
- army recruitment for 3 years will cut down salary and pension costs which took 75% of defense budget.
-Buying fighter jets in trenches unlike SU-30 deal for 270 jets, last batch received this year is only 4th gen. Buying in trenches with different new versions will add value. More rafales will come in different updated versions with more bargaining power with flexibility.
