JEDDAH: Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met the head of a major US defense contracting corporation in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Prince Mohammed held a meeting with the Raytheon Chairman and CEO Thomas Kennedy and company officials.
The deputy crown prince, who is Saudi Arabia’s defense minister, discussed the development of cooperations between the Kingdom and the military contracting giant.
Prince Mohammed and the Raytheon chief talked about the localization of military industries, which is a key goal for Saudi Arabia by 2030, including industrial, technical and training services, as well as support services.
Saudi Arabia aims to localize 50 per cent of military equipment spending by 2030, and one of the ways the country intends to do this is through direct investments and strategic partnerships with leading companies in the defense sector.
The Kingdom is the world’s fourth biggest military equipment spender of which only 5 per cent is within the country.
With $23 billion of sales, the Waltham, Massachusetts-headquartered company is one of the largest military contractors in the world, and has over 60,000 staff.
