China and Russia have agreed to take further countermeasures in response to the proposed deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system (THAAD), officials from both countries said Thursday.
The countermeasures will be aimed at safeguarding interests of China and Russia and the strategic balance in the region, said a statement released after the sixth China-Russia consultation on security situation in the Northeast Asia.
The two countries reiterated their serious concerns about and firm opposition to Washington and Seoul's constant attempts to deploy THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea, according to the statement.
China and Russia urged the United States and South Korea to address their security concerns and stop the deployment of THAAD on the Korean Peninsula, it said.
Seoul and Washington abruptly announced a decision in July last year to deploy one THAAD battery by the end of this year, triggering strong opposition from China and Russia as the U.S. missile defense system's X-band radar can peer into territories of the two countries.
The United States and South Korea claim that THAAD will be used to neutralize missile threats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, while China and Russia believe the powerful system will harm their strategic interests.
Both China and Russia believe the current situation in the Korean Peninsula and in the Northeast Asia is complicated and sensitive, the statement said.
The two countries urged all relevant parties to exercise restraint to prevent activities which could aggravate tensions, it added.
They also reaffirmed their insistence on the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, safeguarding peace and stability of the peninsula, and searching for solutions through dialogue and consultation.
The two countries also agreed to strengthen communication and coordination to jointly cope with the situation in the Northeast Asia.
Thursday's meeting was co-chaired by China's Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou and Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

Brushing aside criticism by China and Russia, Washington said that its hardware in Korea will be focused “solely” on countering the North Korean nuclear and ballistic missile threat.
Less than a week ago, Seoul reaffirmed its commitment to deploying THAAD, leading to another chorus of protest from Beijing, which complained that it “repeatedly expressed” its concerns, and that the system was “no good to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.”
“We also hope that a proper solution that accommodates each other’s concerns can be found through communication and consultation between China and the ROK,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang also told journalists at the briefing.

South Korea has also complained about China taking what it sees as “retaliatory measures” over the decision to deploy. These included a partial ban on Korean TV, as well as some pop artists. The automotive industry was also targeted, and an investigation was launched into Korean retail giant Lotte, which does business in China.
Once again this Thursday, South Korea warned that it may complain to China over the effect its indirect response to THAAD has had: “We plan to present the relation between China’s actions that have been pointed out by our companies and the THAAD deployment during a meeting on Friday regarding the free trade agreement between South Korea and China,” Trade Minister Joo Hyung-hwan told parliament.

Contract between South Korean military and Lotte Group to exchange military land for a golf course to deploy a US missile shield may be delayed, Seoul's defense ministry said Monday.
Defense Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-kyun told a press briefing that there is a possibility for the signing to be postponed though it was originally scheduled to happen in January.
He said the schedule is flexible though administrative process is going on for the contract, in which the military-owned land will be swapped for the Lotte-held golf course.
Seoul and Washington announced a decision in July last year to deploy one Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery in Seongju county in southeastern South Korea by the end of this year.
Amid strong opposition from residents, the South Korean military changed the site into the Lotte-held golf course in the county's far northern region, but it caused outcry from both Seongju people and villagers in Gimcheon city bordering the county.
The spokesman said the valuation of the golf course was completed last week, noting that the Lotte side has yet to approve the final valuation by holding the board of directors' meeting.
A person familiar with the matter told Xinhua that Lotte may refrain from signing the deal as the retail giant relies heavily on Chinese tourists for much of its revenue.
Stores of Lotte Duty Free, South Korea's largest duty free operator, are known to generate over two-thirds of total revenue from Chinese travelers. Lotte is also running department stores in China's major cities.
Lotte was originally scheduled to hold the board of directors' meeting in early January to determine the contract with the South Korean military, but it was postponed on concerns about businesses in China, according to the source.

South Korea's Seoul Broadcasting System quoted an insider from Lotte Group on Jan. 21 stating that Lotte would hold a board meeting after Spring Festival to approve relevant agreements about the deployment site of its Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, the Global Times reported.
According to the report, Korean Broadcasting System noted that China barred eight types of Korean air purifiers from entering the Chinese market in late December last year because of function and security problems. Korea Joongang Daily reported on Jan. 21 that the restriction was also expanded to encompass music and performers; no Korean musician or singer has obtained Beijing's permission to perform in the country since November.
"Will speeding up the deployment resolve the contradictions of THAAD?" Hankook Ilbo asked on Jan. 21. The recent news indicating that South Korea and the U.S. have decided to speed up the THAAD deployment process has triggered rumors that China set up restrictions in protest.
Aju Business Daily reported on Jan. 20 that South Korea has already taken measures to respond to China's restrictions. For example, the Korean Fair Trade Commission has imposed a maximum of 10 percent anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese printing rubber sheets.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson pointed out earlier this month that China has demonstrated serious concerns and strong opposition to the deployment of THAAD, and its stance will not change. China is always positive when it comes to economic and trade cooperation as well as interpersonal and cultural exchanges with South Korea. However, such cooperation and exchange should be based on public support. China hopes South Korea will stop the THADD deployment process and instead find a solution that takes into account the interests of both sides.
Meanwhile, the South Korean public is worried about China's attitude toward THAAD. Chung-in Moon, a professor at Yonsei University in South Korea, published an article in Joongang Daily noting that although THAAD deployment is a sovereign, self-defensive act intended to protect the country from North Korean nuclear and missile threats, it is difficult for THAAD to actually counteract the 1,000 or more missiles that could come from North Korea.
Former U.S. Defense Secretary Perry and several other U.S. scholars indicated that the deployment of THAAD will likely fail to satisfy South Korea's requirements. Meanwhile, China has displayed determined opposition to THAAD, and its deployment will serve only to bring unpredictable consequences.
"The claim of self-defense without a thorough consideration of national interests sounds rather unbelievable," Chung-in Moon commented.

Chinese state media has reacted with anger and threats of boycotts after the board of an affiliate of South Korea's Lotte Group approved a land swap with the government that will enable authorities to deploy a U.S. missile defense system.
The government decided last year to deploy the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, in response to the North Korean missile threat, on land that is part of a golf course owned by Lotte in the Seongju region, southeast of Seoul.
The board of unlisted Lotte International Co Ltd approved the deal with the government on Monday.
China objects to the deployment in South Korea of the THAAD, which has a powerful radar capable of penetrating Chinese territory, with Beijing saying it is a threat to its security and will do nothing to ease tension with North Korea.
Influential state-run Chinese tabloid the Global Times said in an editorial on Tuesday that Lotte should be shown the door in China.
"We also propose that Chinese society should coordinate voluntarily in expanding restrictions on South Korean cultural goods and entertainment exports to China, and block them when necessary," it said in its English-language edition.
The paper's Chinese version said South Korean cars and cellphones should be targeted as well.
"There are loads of substitutes for South Korean cars and cellphones," it said.
The WeChat account of the overseas edition of the ruling Communist Party's official People's Daily said late on Monday that cutting diplomatic ties should also be considered.
"If THAAD is really deployed in South Korea, then China-South Korea relations will face the possibility of getting ready to cut off diplomatic relations," it said.
The official Xinhua news agency also said in a commentary late on Monday that China "did not welcome this kind of Lotte".
"Chinese consumers can absolutely say no to this kind of company and their goods based on considerations of 'national security'," it said.
South Korea's defense ministry said on Tuesday it had signed a land swap deal with Lotte on the golf course in exchange for providing military property. A South Korean military official told Reuters the military would begin installing fences and soldiers would patrol the area.
The Lotte Group said on Feb. 8 Chinese authorities had stopped construction at a multi-billion dollar real estate project in China after a fire inspection, adding to concern in South Korea about damage to commercial relations with the world's second-largest economy.
Asked if South Korea had demanded the Chinese government suspend any economic retaliation, South Korean Defence Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-kyun said: "We have continuously persuaded China so far and will keep continuing efforts to do so."
South Korean government officials have said THAAD is a defensive measure against North Korean threats and does not target any other country.
South Korea's central bank said this month the number of Chinese tourists visiting the tourist island of Jeju had fallen 6.7 percent over the Lunar New Year holiday from last year, partly because of China's "anti-South Korea measures due to the THAAD deployment decision".

Please notice the THAAD system is not just a "defense" system. It's rather aggressive cause it won't just stay there negatively waiting for enemy's missiles. S.Korea treats China as an enemy. Remember how US reacted on the Cuba missile crisis?

Slowly but steadily the world moving towards trade war and banning South Korean product in China is counter productive. Perhaps few of them support this ban in China and rest will ignore but it will hurt China standing on economic globalization. However there are other ways available to resolve the difference between China and SK. Diplomacy is the best option.
To my understanding Trade war is like a double edge sword if you ban their products and surely China will going to get treatment from SK and other will follow the suit. So, it best to resolve issue through dialogues.
