Denmark’s defense procurement agency FMI confirmed it has started negotiations Israeli arms maker Elbit Systems for the delivery of Autonomous Truck Mounted Ordnance System (ATMOS) and PULS Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) to the Danish Army.
Denmark is making the move after previously revealing it would donate all of the 19 Caesar self-propelled howitzers it ordered from France’s Nexter to Ukraine.
The combination of the PULS rocket launchers is a way of complementing the new artillery systems, as it is initially not possible to get sufficient artillery delivered quickly enough to meet operational needs, FMI said
A total of 19 ATMOS are to be purchased by Denmark. The system can carry 36 155 mm shells and reach targets at distances of up to 40 km. ATMOS can fire six shots per minute and can be mounted on most off-road 8X8 trucks.
In addition to the 19 ATMOS systems, Denmark intends to buy 8 PLUS MLRS that launches 122 mm and 160 mm rockets with an automatic firing system.
PULS can hit targets at up to 300 km away, depending on ammunition type.
Denmark did not say when a contract might be concluded but the procedure is expected to be an accelerated
one, as the decision to donate the Caesar howitzers to Ukraine meant the establishment of Denmark’s 1st brigade would be delayed.
