First of all New Delhi is just a district in Delhi. The Metropolis is Delhi not New Delhi.
My vote is for Delhi because culture wise, development wise, and off course wow factor wise Delhi is much better.
If you are comparing Delhi with Mumbai you will know.
Delhi has much better culture and also economy wise Delhi is the king of all cities in India.
Delhi has got Asia's largest township Dwarka and Mumbai has got Asia's largest slum called Dharawi that's such a simple difference.
Delhi has more crorepatis and still Delhiites are not fake they love India first not Delhi but Mumbaikars always talk about their Spirit.
I am not saying Mumbai is bad, both are in India and both have been attacked by the terrorists and even more than 10 times but one thing Mumbaikars should do. They must stop talking about the spirit of their city that's not Mumbai's spirit but that's Indian spirit.
Im a delhite and living in Mumbai now for 3 years. Ive lived all over the country and outside and like Delhi and lot and just cannot understand or adjust to Mumbai and Mumbaikars attitude.
Mumbai controls the media (TOI is gujju) and always have built up a certain mystique about Mumbai. Its all over rated to say the least. Its all PR.
Just an example, people in Delhi in 80s and 90s lived in the fear of bomb blasts and terror attacks and always carried on with life without any trace of fear. In Mumbai, before the bomb blasts reverberations are over people start saluting the 'spirit'..Forget Mumbai, any place in the world ; people would go back to work the next day or so..so whats the big deal about that. In th is way, North East and Kashmir have great spirit...they work normally despite militancy and bombs.
Even Mumbaikars would find it hard to compare the infrastructure of Mumbai to Delhi as its a 10-0 scoreline. Match is over before it begins. They celeberated the sea link like a world cup win. Funny !!!!
People tend to be more 'accepting' of their fate in Mumbai and that masquerades as discipline. Ofcourse, Delhi should behave better and make it safer for women. Its more discipled as people are poorer, have less time, have more fear...and also are mostly emplyed and dont run businesses. Anyhow, Delhi can improve on this.
A flyover takes 3-4 yrs to complete that Delhi completes in 6 months. Locals here are not heard here(they also dont speak up..sitting in a traffic jam for 1 hr in Delhi many people will take up the matter..In Mumbai its chalta hai)..Only the builders and folks like Reliance and Tata can thrive in business, they get all the contracts. Muslims are forced to live in ghettos and now north Indians are targetted with racism.Earliar, South Indians were targetted.(Sure Delhi needs to respect the North-Easteners more...).
Its a rich and poor city where everything is expensive and a very ****** place. It actually stinks. The mafia controls all the land and even Marathis are discriminated by them. All stars in Mumbai are feted to the extent that one can start hating them...eg Sachin (who I used to love). Yesterday, saw a whole day program on TV (TOI ka channel) with Sachin, Sunny and Vishy.....well..Sunny okay, Sachin okay, Vishy (just because he is related to Sunny??)...also the way Ravi, Harsha and other control Indian cricket is unfair and they try and push Rohit Sharma and others like Dhawal and Nayar to the team all the time very subtly through there article and commentary...as if we dont notice it...(thru many articles in Mumbai Mirror).
Its a different matter, India wins when it has more delhi players in it (eg 1983 world cup)...their attitude is clear from Mumbai Indians performance and its management where Sachin filled people he 'liked'...they improved this year...Their Ranji team is good but over rated now and import players from other states like Zaheer.
While generally, people seem verbally less aggresive in Mumbai at the workplace; Ive not come across a more 'Yes Boss' attitude anywhere in the world. The culture is totally shareholder driven and extremely corrupt. India Inc that operates largely from Mumbai (and Im a part of it and so the inside experience) is run like a old boys network and if they are not in the network you are out.
Having worked in Delhi...people there have more self respect and will never take such abusive bosses anytime.Sure, its yet to have as many HQ of companies as Mumbai. Due to the so many HQs in Mumbai its share in tax collections is high...people tout it as some achievement. They should compare GDP & Per capital of Delhi and Mumbai. Delhi is ahead.
One gets sick all the time due to the humidity and environment.People have not gone out of Mumbai and are unwilling to accept other places and people and then even try and compare it to NYC (where Ive lived for some time)..Its laughable
....The financial capital of India is also the corruption capital and dirt capital and is nothing compared to NYC.Butg you could compare Bangalore to silicon valley (Mumbai IC tries to play down Bangalore successes....)
Even the medical facilities have been corrputed (wife recently had to undergo an unnecessary surgery at a reputed hospital). Medicines are always understocked...the one you need might not be available and if it is it will be from a brand you dont want.(Never faced this in Delhi or Bangalore). Even the doctors are difficult to find and either you get very high profile ones or very bad ones.
Not many places to visit outside of Mumbai (except Lonavla and Kashid etc) 'as compared' to Delhi and even Bangalore.Good thing about Mumbai is door to door services for getting eggs and bread and 24 hr electricity. Night life is not as good as stated. People living in South Mumbai and Bandra/Juhu are typical of Mumbaikars and only move within few Kms of these places and ignore the 60% slum janta as untouchables....they live in their cocoon..or 'cake' and think everything outside is sweet. One thing Ive noticed is they dont take much pride in India and its history and copy the west and think themselves as cool. All of them also hate Delhi almost as much as they Pakistan.
Need I say more.
