NEW DELHI: The parliamentary standing committee on defence has asked the 3 service chiefs to appear before it on April 20 on the issue of defence preparedness.

The appearance of three service chiefs before the parliamentary panel comes weeks after a letter from Army chief Gen V K Singh to PM Manmohan Singh was leaked.

Army chief General V K Singh had painted a grim picture of the operational capabilities of his 1.13-million strong force in his letter to the PM, grappling as it is with tanks running out of ammunition, obsolete air defence systems and lack of adequate weaponry for infantry and special forces battalions.

Asking the PM to "pass suitable directions to enhance the Army's preparedness", Gen Singh in his March 12 letter had said that the state of the major fighting arms was "indeed alarming" and indirectly blamed the long-winded arms procurement process and the recalcitrant bureaucracy for it.

The letter pointed out that the Army's tank regiments were "devoid of critical ammunition to defeat enemy tanks", while the existing air defence systems cannot effectively protect against enemy air attacks since they are "97% obsolete".

Now thats what i am talking about. Looks like the ball is rolling. I think IA should ask for return of the funds that they were forced to return from the last budget.

And that's precisely what we need a joint chief of staff for. This would be his job, if he existed.
WHAT ??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ??? WHAT THE F--K IS HE GONNA DO ??? SUPPOSE LETS SAY WE CREATED THIS POST...HE IS NOT GONNA GO ALL IN FIGHTING LIKE GEN. SINGH DID if HE WANNA STAY AT HIS POST TILL HIS TERMS completed. REMEMBER, THE WHOLE POWER IS STILL WITH POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATS. Suppose he wents ballistic like Gen.Singh did (he did becuase he has nothing to lose, other chief are silence like Gandhiji ke bandar), what will happen ??? If there's joint chief in this position he will never make such a mistake, he will keep his mouth shut because he doesn't want the deals of other 2 services to be effected too. He will have to decide whether to ruin the deals of all the three services or just stay mum and let the state of IA deteriorates.

Major changes will come if MOD will include military personnel in its staff rather than bureaucrats who doesn't understand a weaponry anyways. In MMRCA, the trial reports were submitted in March-April 2011 but the decision came 1 year later because nobody was qualified enough to understand than 600+ page report to decide who is the winner. Then IAF spend the whole year to make these idiots understand what was written in that report so that they can make the decision for IAF.

------------------------------------------

Alot has been spoken by the people about Gen. Singh and his post in the last couple of weeks, people who don't have any right, reporters who have goes to the front in the blanket of these soldiers only. Unless they have the guts to take a bullet for a stranger, i don't think they had the right to call someone crazy or talk about their mother's death (that was bad and poor journalism). I mean the wasn't a dirty politician, he deserved some respect.

He is a useless guy...IA has shown the requirement of the use of choppers in Army's aviation corps by various exercises (choppers like Mi17, Apache, Mi26, Mi35 etc. not just LUH). IAF has been against this for decades now, but this time IA has really shown the requirement through exercises and even IN is agreeing with IA, but when came to decision, everybody started looking towards Saint Antony, but what Mr. Antony did was he said " I have full trust among all 3 armed forces and i think they can resolve this issue among themselves ".:hitwall:

I mean how can they resolve this issue especially when they even don't have any decision making powers also.

^^ He is a honest but indecisive minister which is as bad as having a incompetent minister.

i hope this year the following deals clear for IA...

1) ATGM

2) LUH

3) M777

4) Next batch of Brahmos

5) Spyder SRSAM

6) Follow on order for Pinaka.

7) If VSHORAD trials get completed then signing of this deal in this financial year will be great.

If a faster acquisition process comes of this then maybe mr Singh can redeem himself in my eyes-somewhat.
