Dalit women str*pped, beaten, paraded n*ked in UP village

Five Dalit women were paraded n*ked and caned by 15 OBC villagers after a girl eloped with a Dalit boy.Medieval mindset continues to prevail despite the fact that 67 springs have passed since India attained Independence. In the latest reign of terror, 15 Other Backward Castes (OBC) villagers of Shahjahanpur's Hareva in Uttar Pradesh str*pped five women of the Dalit community, paraded them n*ked, caned them and then put them on exhibition on the highway because their daughter had allegedly eloped with a Dalit's son.

"They dragged us out of our houses on Saturday, str*pped us in the middle of the village, beat us with batons and took us to a tea stall on the Saraya-Budhwana Road where passersby stopped to leer at us. This continued for about four hours before some other villagers intervened," one of the victims, whose son has allegedly run away with the OBC girl, told the police.

Following the incident, Jalalabad police of the district have arrested four persons, including Sarvesh Kumar Kashyap, father of the girl.

However, Sarvesh said that his daughter was going towards the agricultural field along with her mother on Wednesday evening when the boy Santosh Kumar reached there on motorcycles along with his friends and kidnapped her.

He said: "We had gone to the boy's house and tried to convince them that they should return my daughter. But, our efforts went in vain. Later, though our tenor was of anger when we had confronted them, it is wrong to accuse us that we had paraded them n*ked."

Santosh belongs to the Dhanuk caste that falls under the Dalit community. The girl is from the Kashyap caste, a powerful and affluent OBC community in the state.

State Director General of Police Arvind Kumar Jain ordered an inquiry into the incident and said that the culprits would not be spared. He said: "The police officers of Shahjahanpur have been asked to probe the case and take action against whosoever is guilty. I have also asked them to recover the girl who is a minor." Jain claimed that the women were not paraded n*ked and their clothes were torn after they were beaten up.

Additional Superintendent of Police Asharam Yadav said: "Cases have been registered against 15 people, including women of their family for allegedly helping the men in attacking the Dalits.

1. the criminals were reactionary regressives who did not allow the eloped lady to live with the man she loved, hence she eloped ( which is her right ).

2. there is also the element of discrimination against dalits.

3. there is a second element of misogyny when the other ladies were paraded.

all indian villages must be replaced with highly urban townships ( not of the ugly glass-front 15-storey bangalore-type ) where nobody must be allowed to retain indian village characteristics... anyone who refuses must be tried before a people's committee.

I will repeat a zillion time that India is a glorious land and nation because thats my belief and observation. I am more like the person who sees the glass half full and not half empty.
Now regarding the title incident, its unfortunate, sad and condemnable. Aberrations against established laws happen every where but what glorifies a nation is having an indiscriminate, equitable and reasonable laws to deal with social issues. I would have been the first to criticise the nation if there were no laws and efforts to deal with such issues. Please remember that efforts against discrimination of Dalits began only during 20th century and particularly after independence. If I have one big grudge against muslim rulers of India specially the mughals, its that they did nothing to eradicate this evil from the hindu society and credit goes to the British to take note of it. But I admit that our governments have failed to stop this in last 67 years.
May I request you to not give me adjectives. I have no issues with anyone being a communist or capitalist but I am cautious against people who disrespect their own nation.
