I guess he has realized that its journalist and Media who stand to gain from interviewing him.
He gains from NOT giving interviews.
It's not about GAIN or Loss. Narendra Modi is a public SERVANT and is answerable for everything he does. He gets a salary for his work, and a large mansion to live. You automatically have a right to question him. His stupid decisions such as building a 300 feet tall statue of Sardar Patel to gratify his own ego. That cost a lot of taxpayer money by the way, the work was outsourced to a Chinese company, and the statue is already showing cracks. If a contractor scammed me of money in this manner, I would legally sue him for everything he owns. But with serfs such as you, I don't expect that kind of resilience. It's your own taxpayer money. You don't have the balls to question Narendra Modi.
Of course he is only answerable to Ambani and Adani, his true employers, rather than the Indian taxpayers. In other words, India is no longer a democracy but a banana republic of the African tinpot dictator kind.
Somehow you lot are fine with that arrangement. Good for you.
