CWG security: Oz defence officials seek Indian Army's assurance - Express India

Melbourne Australia's defence officials have sought assurances from the Indian Army about the security of Australian athletes during the Delhi Commonwealth Games next month.
The chief of Australia's Defence Force Angus Houston met Indian Army chief General V K Singh last month and the issue of security at the Commonwealth Games came up for discussion.

"The Chief of Defence Force and the Chief of Army discussed a wide range of issues during General Singhs visit," the Defence spokesman was quoted as saying by 'The Daily Telegraph'.

"During General Singh's visit, the Chief of the Defence Force sought an assurance that the security for the Commonwealth Games would be effective. General Singh provided an overview of the security capability that would be in place for the Games and gave an assurance that appropriate actions were being taken to counter the risk," he added.

Apart from Houston, Australia's Chief of Army Ken Gillespie, and secretary of the Defence Department Ian Watt, also met General Singh in Canberra.

"There were no discussions between the Chief of Defence Force and the Chief of Army with General Singh that linked our contribution in Afghanistan with the Commonwealth Games," the spokesperson said.

The Games, scheduled from October 3 to 14, have been marred by construction delays and corruption allegations. There were security concerns as well but they have gone down considerably in the past few months.

It's not just Australia concerned about security, i am sure other countries are talking to the Indian Army aswell. I don't know why you are all surprised.

Anyway, Security will be very tight its for sure.

Hopefully.

provide bullet proof jackets to aussies.

Australian athletes will be wearing bullet proof vests while traveling in transport, alot of other athletes from other countries are also doing this.

The whole commonwealth is very very concerned about the level of security at the commonwealth games. There is a very high chance of a terrorist attack.

Who knows what will happen to Australians when they are in India given the fact that the Indian media demonized Australia because a few Indian-Australian got hurt in Aussieland.

Anyways, people's safety must be priority number one :

Did Aussie attacks lead to rapes in India?
Did Aussie attacks lead to rapes in India?

ARE WHITE women being harassed, molested and raped in India as a reaction to the attack on Indian students in Australia? One can never say, but in a country where white skin is always an item of pride, the hatred for whites (read Australians) has never been higher and the reason for this is the nature of coverage the media in both countries has given these incidents.

The press coverage of the attack on Indian students in Australia, never earlier known for racism has been so detailed that it has verged on the level of being provocative. But foreign students or rather Indian students still continue to go to Australia, because not only do they value the kind of education they will get there but also the kind of jobs they will pick up there when they finish their education.

There have been two shocking incidents of foreign women being molested and raped recently in two cities. In Lucknow a woman tourist was molested inside a bus and non of the other passengers bothered to even murmur a protest. Second incidence, in Chandigarh two drivers raped a teenager inside a moving taxi. So have Indians suddenly decided to become racist too?

Both these crimes can be attributed to different reasons, but the short span if time in which they have taken place after the Australian incidents is alarming. Moreover because the tourist season is only a few months away and India will stand to lose a lot of foreign exchange and goodwill if the wrong message is sent across the world - about India being an unsafe destination for foreign tourists especially women.

The police stomp, kick and lathi- charge innocent and unarmed protestors as a rule in India, but when the Aussie police dispersed a crowd of Indian students in Australia the headline categorically made an attempt to play up this angle. In India such an incident would have been covered by a label headline saying 'Cops disburse unruly mob'.

Once the word gets around that Indians have become racist too, then our five thousand year old tradition of the guest being equivalent to God will go for a six and the tourist season could be bowled out for a duck.

OUTRAGE - THIS IS THE INDIAN GOVERNMENTS RESPONSE!

Goa's tourism boss links sexual assaults to bikinis

A shocking case provokes outrage. The local government blames swimwear.

Once upon a time, the beaches of Goa were known for free love. But as a string of high-profile sexual assaults on tourists culminated in the alleged **** of a 9-year-old Russian girl last week, the idyllic strip of sand along the Arabian Sea is fast gaining a fearful reputation.

The answer? According to the state's ministry of tourism, those cute pre-teens in two-pieces are asking for it.

“You can't blame the locals; they have never seen such women. Foreign tourists must maintain a certain degree of modesty in their clothing. Walking on the beaches half-naked is bound to titillate the senses,” New Delhi's Mail Today newspaper quoted Pamela Mascarhenas, Goa's deputy director of tourism, as saying Friday.

A spokesman for the Goa tourism department confirmed that — far from marking a departure from official policy — the official's remark echoed previous statements by the tourism minister himself.

“I have not talked to her [Mascarhenas] on this issue directly,” said Swapnil Naik, director of the Goa tourism department.“But I think that sentiment has also been echoed by our minister in one or two statements. There is a degree of cultural shock for our native population when they see certain type of dressing.”

Goa has been on the boil since Jan. 28, when a 9-year-old Russian girl was allegedly raped by two Indian men. Following close on the heels of the alleged **** and murder of Scarlett Keeling, a British teenager, in 2008, the incident sparked an immediate media feeding frenzy, as local TV channels broadcast interviews with the victim's mother and the 9-year-old girl herself. The ongoing story culminated Jan. 30 with a scare headline reading,“No Bikinis On Goa Beaches.”

Anyways, people's safety must be priority number one :

It would be appropriate to say a Few Who got killed rather Say got Injured..... Many Indians were Killed Just on the Basis Of Racism..... And We dont treat the Guests In India ,In that manner.... If we do, then India would not have found a Place in the top 10 Tourist destinations .....

India has Been Issuing warning to Its tourists to stop Going to Night clubs or parties and Avoid travelling after 10pm in the night and If any Emergency , are advised to contact the nearest Police station for A Company.....

Most of the cases happen when People Push Off the Warning given by the Embassy or Immigration office while travelling....

Iam Not justifying the crime Happening In India, But Just Pointing Out How to be safe In India....

Nope, wrong.

There has only been 2 deaths of Indians in Australia in the last 2 years.

1 was murdered by his indian friends

1 was killed and the killer hasn't been founded

Please go spread your lies and misinformation else where.
