Is he from the Hoa ethnic group?

He is a german citizen, he speaks German language (he can't speak nor understand Vietnamese language), he thinks in German- what is there as a Vietnamese to be a proud of? He works on behalf of Germany, not Vietnam. I doubt he even cares about Vietnam.

I'm curious why this makes you so proud that you need to make a thread about this? even post his picture because you are so proud lol

Ethnic Hoa in Vietnam are far behind North vietnamese, in everything, especially education.

And the guy Eastwind talks about is not a Vietnamese. No one in Vietnam cares about him, including media, except when he visited VN they talked something about his root.

Thanks to communism then...

From Wikipedia

Following Vietnam's reunification in 1976, the socialist and revolutionary Vietnamese government began using the Hoa as a scapegoat for their economic woes. The government referred the enterprising Chinese as "bourgeois" and perpetrators of "world capitalism." Brutal draconian policies against the Chinese involved the "Employing the techniques Hitler used to inflame hatred against the Jews" as reported by the U.S. News and World Report's Ray Wallace in 1979 led many Hoa being persecuted by fleeing the country or death laboring in Vietnam's so-called "new economic zones".

Agreed that after 1976, there is a lot of problem with ethnic Hoa, but that was history.

I am talking about current situation. Ethnic Hoa are falling behind, especially against North Vietnamese, even with incentive given by our government to help them.

Most elites overseas Chinese have already fled vietnam.
There are tens of thousands of them now living in Hainan and Guangxi provinces, and many are in Australia and likes.

Now there are still 1millions ethnic Hoa living in Vietnam. Of course, only people who think about themselves as Hoa are counted. Many 3 - 4 generation ethnic Chinese abandoned their root and claim they are Kinh. It is easy in Vietnam, because Chinese and Vietnamese names are same. Just change your surname Chen () to Trần, or Chang () to Trương and you can easily claim you are Kinh, as Trần () is the second most popular surname in Vietnam and Trương is also pretty popular.

There is no elite in Vietnam. We are all equal. Possibly children of the so-called "elite" who fled Vietnam are washing dishes in some restaurants in Australia, while grand-children of the dirt-poor who stayed in Vietnam are becoming millionaire.

Around 2 - 3 years ago, southern universities started to give ethnic Hoa students same incentive (1 -2 points), same as other ethnic minorities, to enter universities. I believe it is one of the most important incentive for their education. Not sure if it still continue now.

You sure? There isn’t minority right for nguoi Hao in Vietnam, nguoi Hao never considered Vietnamese even though they are 3rd or 4th generation born and breed in Vietnam.

You are ill-informed or mis-informed as an American and I can understand. Ethnic Hoa is one of the ~ 60 minorities in Vietnam, why not?. Not to mention about San Diu (who live mostly in Vinh Phuc and Thai Nguyen provinces) and Ngái, both still speak Han Chinese (Cantonese) but not counted as Hoa.

During the conflict with China in 2014, ethnic Hoa in HCM city strongly condemned China and said they considered Vietnam as their motherland, not China.

And a lot of high-ranking cadres in HCM city are ethnic Hoa, of course. My aunt in law (not sure if she was second or third generation ethnic Hoa) was almost selected to become Vice Chairman of District 11. I once visited her family in District 6. They were still clearly Hoa in living style, but they were "Gia đình Cách mạng", who made contribution during the war.

A Vietnamese by the name of Philipp Rösler and who doesn't speak one word Vietnamese? LOL

BTW, he failed massively as party chief of the FDP. He and his party would sell their grandmother for money.
Lots of young Chinese and Koreans living in Germany can’t speak Chinese nor Koreans. They aren’t chinese nor Koreans? Are you sure?
