GURDASPUR: Even though the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana has been deferred due to centres intervention, however, the situation continues to be on boil in Punjab as one person was killed and one injured reportedly in police firing on Thursday.
The police resorted to firing to quell members of Sikh organizations gathered near Ramgarhia Gurdwara on Tibbri road in this city violating ban order after the district administration clamped curfew following a bandh call given by some Hindu organizations on Thursday .
As per Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Mohinder Singh Kainth, the Shiv Sainiks had given a call for Gurdaspur Bandh on Thursday after cases had been registered against some persons after clashes took place on Wednesday during the Punjab Bandh.
Most of the establishments owned by Hindus were closed on the call on bandh while the Sikhs chose to open their shops due to which the right-wing Hindu activists came face to face with the Sikhs mounting tension in the city.Two Sikh youths riding a motor cycle were beaten near Mian Mistri Gurdwara in the city by some anti-social elements and as Sikh youths gathered in Ramgarhia Gurdwara on Thursday wanted to take a procession violating Hindu organizations bandh call. Jaspal Singh resident of Sidhwan village was killed on the spot while Ranjit Singh of Pandherr village was injured.
The firing took place after the Shiv Sainiks and Sikhs clashed over the clemency of Balwant Singh Rajoana, co-accused in the Beant Singh assassination case. Following the communal tension, curfew has been imposed in the city.Following the tensions ADGP S. K.Sharma , and other senior officials of border range visited the city and held meeting with Gurdaspur Deputy commissioner Mohinder singh Kainth and SSP Varinder Pal Singh to take adequate measures to maintain law and order situation in the city .
Gurdaspur Deputy commissioner Mohinder singh Kainth and district police cheif SSP Varinder Pal singh , in their respective statements said , the anti -social elements will not be allowed to vitiate the otherwise peaceful situation in the city and law and order situation will be maintained at all cost.
The district adminstration however denied that curfew has been clamped but asserted that there was ban on assembly of more than four peorsons in the city as as section 144 has been clamped and ban order will continue till further orders , said a district adminstration spokesman.

Another story is four Sikh youth tried to forcefully close business which belonged to Shiv Sena member's on Wednesday during Punjab Bundh.They were beaten by Shiv Sanik's
and were booked by the police for their act but then the Sikh youth protested to book the shiv saniks also which they eventually did.So all this lead to to the clashes of Thursday.
