And Carlos, the jailed Venezuelan revolutionary, said of Gaddafi that Gaddafi did more than any other leader towards releasing the world's people from oppression.

You should watch Gaddafi's UNO speech from 2009, especially since you mention it yourself.

Gaddafi's leadership skills were not limited to Libya but were felt globally.

Libya didn't have nuclear weapons, so there was no deterrent capability.

So why did USSR collapse then? It had Nuclear Weapons, It was a world superpower not some small African country. Russia still has nukes and is a capitalist country now.

Most modern European countries are mix of socialism and capitalism. Even USA has some features of socialism.
I must say socialism and later communism is the only way of human progress. After capitalism we will have only 2 options - feudalism (regress) or socialism (progress). It does not matter that USSR socialism failed - history know many examples of local restoration of previous systems (such as Monarchy after Republic or Capitalism after Socialism) and global degradation of humanity - Dark Ages and Bronze Age catastrophe. Future is not always better than past. But in long term progressive systems always win.

Pakistan too is nothing to showcase. Though I must say, there was a time in Pakistan when Faiz and his chums in the military almost enacted a Socialist coup. The Indian military has not shown any such inclination.
