Rigged or not, BNP could not have won the 2008 elections for various reasons. The interim government tortured many of its members and the media exaggerated its crimes. The interim govt also destroyed the party by arresting and harrassing many of its members, therefore they could not perform. Not to forget, the party was divided within itself as the reformist parties included some of the top leaders of BNP.Most of the awami leaders refuged in India during the caretaker thats why they were not as badly effected as bnp.
Offcourse, 2001-2006 crimes were also part of the issue, but considering the situation now, those seem pretty minor and insignificant.

Thanks for the reply, so at the end of the day its the case of choosing the less evil? Corruption and crime runs in both the parties AL and BNP then? What makes BNP the smaller devil of the two? For the BNP, supporters here what makes you aligned towards BNP and not AL, they have very similar agendas and principles don't they?

.
People should not give BNP a free pass in next election unless BNP clears all indian agents inside the party and clear its stand on india agression and hegemonic agenda in Bangladesh.

.

anyways pls don't reply if you are a blind supporter of any one of those ladies cos they deceive the most. I dunno why but I would still prefer their sons 'cos they are now mature enough to lead the country and they are more educated.

A very good question indeed. Yes, no can deny the fact that awami league and BNP are both corrupted in terms of ministers, mayors and mps. But because of BNP's strict policies, ministers and mp's don't have that much power over their areas like awami leagues do. BNP is corrupted more in the ministry levels, but if you study the two leaders, Khaleda Zia and SHeikh hasina, Khaleda Zia is a better person than sheikh hasina. If you ever turn on the news now, all sheikh hasina does is bash bnp and ziaur rahman at every chance she gets. when bnp was in power, this was not the case. even the highly controversial tarek rahman used to visit sheikh mujibs graveyard every now and then.
offcourse , when bnp was in power, they created rab and streghtened the military to evict crime. Even the great harkad ul jihad leaders bangla bhai was captured during that time. The business sector of the country was booming, yes maybe thru some petty crimes, but it was still booming.
Most importantly, BNP believed in an independant country, where we have equal relations with all countries.
