Cross-border attack: Pakistan's patience 'running thin' with Afghan Taliban

Few TTPs being assassinated has nothing to do with IEA. Agencies can use any mercenaries or may have done it directly with own agents. Rather IEA fires back to Pakistani posts whenever FC engages in self-defense against TTP or IEA + TTP attacks.

I do not expect Taliban to fully control Afghanistan so quickly, but atleast if what you say is real IEA could have said it. They are saying opposite. Every other day, some local IEA commander abuses Pakistan even on their TV. Their Army chief statements are obvious. This is continuously happening.

TTP has only gained more momentum with IEA by kind of attacks we are seeing. Few TTPs being killed is not going to diminish their strength as they can recruit many times more from Afghanistan.

You are saying they are cooperating with us but then why Army & Govt are not saying this ?. Army & govt today again asked IEA to honor their promise.

Itbas alot to do with IEA and without their help, we wont be abke to assassinate so many leaders. TTP have been helping daesh against IEA and it wont be long before u see open clashes between them. Public statements have many purposes and given for many reasons.

What makes us believe that there is no formal communication going on between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan.

Have you considered these attacks are deliberately done so to undermine/sabotage those talks? Both from within Taliban and the regional adversaries who back anti-Pakistan proxies.

Recent NSA visit to Afghanistan?

There are people within Afghan Taliban who are against Pakistan what if there is a an struggle going on within the Taliban ranks regarding this issue.

Sensible people in Taliban leadership is also under stress and openly doing drone strikes will further undermine them. So the support has to be kept covert and low key.

Can we afford permanent hostility with the Afghan Taliban which will be endless?

What does TTP and BLA and their backers want most is to pit Pakistan against Afghan Taliban in which their proxies can thrive and another countless decades of unrest in Pakistan.

Pakistan army /Defense establishment has no clue how to defend pakistan from terrorism.
TTP and BLA/Affiliates attack, PA and Militia reply and then wait for more attacks to respond. That is the end of their intellectual thinking.

If you go hostile against Afghan Taliban they will reach elsewhere for support and there are many who are waiting and baiting ( your emotions both the religious and beard hating people are used to this end) for it to happen including your 2 neighbours. (Iran and India). India wants nothing else than to stretch your forces, make you unstable and make a 2 front war scenario like they themselves are in. All it needs to do is spend a billion dollars each year.

It's not being Islamist its being realistic. Mixing religion or anti-religion sentiments with strategic objectives is a recipe for disaster.

That is why i feel the misguided people who hate anyone with a beard are equally dangerous than misguided people with beards.

Sooner a comprehensive mechanism has to be developed between the 2 countries covert or public ( very likely at nascent level has already been established).

Rats breed when there is food be it the BLA or TTP. Deny them territory and narrative than only you can win this war (as long as rats have space and bread they will keep multiplying and no amount of rat traps can ssve the day, you will be catching 9 rats one will sneak past) otherwise it will be going up and down every few years with funding for these proxies going up every year. Their backers have enough resources to keep this war going forever. You kill a hundred in 6 months they will recruit a 100 more canon fodder, you keep taking out their leaders they will keep replacing them. ( India is successful because it does not use its own territory to that end with plausible deniability and with its economic and strategic importance ( viz a viz China) it keeps on getting away with it. We don't enjoy that luxury).

Pak Army defeated them in their strong hold. Why would we screw our realtions with a State just Because some Low level idiots decided to Attack our troops when we were In talks with the Afghan Leadership. And do you really think those NDS and Ex ANA who were recruited by the CIA or RAW for 20 years Vanished overnight after the American cowardice withdrawal from Afghanistan ?
Obviously they are still on the ground and in Contact with their Respective agencies and it takes only two Aks and couple of Magazines by the CIA or RAW agents to execute an ambush to undermine the Pak Afghan relations simple.

Five soldiers martyred in cross-border attack

RAWALPINDI: Five soldiers of Pakistan Army were martyred while responding to fire of terrorists from inside Afghanistan across the international border in Kurram district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
Attackers from inside Afghanistan across the international border opened fire on Pakistani troops in Kurram district. Pakistani troops responded in a befitting manner and, as per intelligence reports, due to fire of Pak troops, terrorists suffered heavy causalities.

However, during fire exchange, Lance Naik Ajab Noor (34) of Karachi, Sepoy Ziaullah Khan (22) of Lakki Marwat, Sepoy Naheed Iqbal (23) of Karak, Sepoy Sameerullah Khan (18) of Bannu and Sepoy Sajid Ali (27) of Bahawalnagar embraced shahadat.
"Pak Army is determined to defend Pakistan’s borders against the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve," the ISPR statement said. Pakistan condemned the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for activities against Pakistan and expected that interim Afghan government would not allow conduct of such activities against Pakistan, in future. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack.
The Afghan government denied the firing had come from within Afghan territory. "We assure other countries, especially our neighbours, that no one will be allowed to use Afghan land against them," Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for Afghanistan’s Taliban government, told Reuters.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, addressing a press conference, said that over 70,000 to 80,000 Pakistani people and personnel of the armed forces rendered matchless sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
Paying rich tribute to the sacrifices of the personnel of security forces, he said 20 terrorists were killed in 72 hours while nine soldiers embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attacks. “As per its promises, Taliban government should stop such cross-border militants attacks,” Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, interior minister, said in a statement.
“We pay tribute to the sacrifices made by the security forces,” said the interior minister, adding that the sacrifices made by the security forces for the homeland will not go in vain.” Regarding talks with banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) outfit, the minister said doors for talks could not be closed. However, he said those should not be spared who took up weapons against the state and the armed forces. “Our valiant forces were responding to the terrorists in befitting manners,” he added.

IEA is better in dealing with them look how many they arrested and assinatinated in recent weeks.. IEA is more annoyed with this groups then Islamabad as they are roaming balochistan so they shouldn't become a scapegoat here but what needs to happen is better interoperaility and selling further arms to IEA border security operation rooms and more electronics such as access to pakistan satellite images they will sniff them out in a matter of weeks.. Mind you border is vast
We need extensive drone presence in the area.

Cross-border attack: Pakistan's patience 'running thin' with Afghan Taliban

Despite promises, Afghan soil continues to be used by terrorists as five more soldiers embrace martyrdom in Kurram

A view of the Pak-Afghan border.

ISLAMABAD:.. Pakistan's patience with the interim Afghan government seems to be running thin as for the first time it publically condemned the use of Afghan soil against it since the Taliban takeover after five of its soldiers embraced martyrdom in exchange of fire with terrorists from across the border on Sunday.

"Terrorists from inside Afghanistan across the international border, opened fire on Pakistani troops in Kurram District," read a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Pakistani troops responded in a "befitting" manner causing heavy causalities to terrorists, the military's media wing said. However, as a result of exchange of fire at least five Pakistani soldiers were martyred, it added.

Those who were martyred include Lance Naik Ajab Noor (resident of Karachi, age 34 years), Sepoy Ziaullah Khan (resident of Lakki Marwat, age 22 years), Sepoy Naheed Iqbal (resident of Karak, age 23 years), Sepoy Sameerullah Khan (resident of Bannu, age 18 years) and Sepoy Sajid Ali (resident of Bahawalnagar, age 27 years).

According to the ISPR, Pakistan strongly condemned the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for activities against Pakistan and "expects that interim Afghan government will not allow the conduct of such activities against Pakistan, in future".

"Pak Army is determined to defend Pakistan’s borders against the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve," the statement added.

This is the first time Pakistan officially condemned the use of Afghan soil against it under the Taliban rule. On previous occasions, Pakistan opted to downplay similar incidents. Even when the local Taliban soldiers tried to disrupt the border fencing, Pakistan termed it a "localised problem".

It appears now that Pakistan is running out of patience with the interim Taliban government as despite its repeated promises Afghan soil continued to be used by terrorists against Pakistan.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, while condemning the terrorist attack, said in a statement that the interim Taliban government should ensure that such attacks do not take place as promised.

Paying homage to the sacrifices of the security forces, he said that their sacrifices will not go in vain.

The latest incident came on the heels of coordinated terrorist attacks in the Panjgur and Naushki areas of Balochistan. The Pakistani intelligence agencies intercepted communication between the attackers and their handlers in India and Afghanistan.

It is believed that Pakistan has conveyed its concerns to the Taliban government about the repeated use of Afghan soil by terrorists.

The Taliban government during the recent visit of National Security Advisor Dr Moeed Yusuf assured that Afghan soil would not be allowed to use against anyone including Pakistan.

Since the Taliban takeover, Islamabad wanted the interim government to either take action against banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or deny them space to operate out of Afghan soil.

But the Afghan Taliban instead offered to broker a peace deal between Pakistan and the TTP. It was because of this reason that the TTP had agreed to a month-long ceasefire in November. But the truce ended with no progress in peace talks.

Since then the TTP stepped up attacks while Pakistan also resumed operations against the terrorist outfit.

The Afghan Taliban are thought to be still keen to revive talks between Pakistan and the TTP but the spike in terrorist attacks mean there are no prospects of such talks in the foreseeable future.

Patience: What patience?

Running Thin: What running thin?

Pakistan is literally out of options. I swear, it makes me sad. Look at the comments of ISPR here: https://www.express.pk/story/2281567/1/

"آئی ایس پی آر کے اعلامیے میں کہا گیا کہ دہشت گردوں کی جانب سے پاکستان کے خلاف کارروائیوں کے لیے افغان سرزمین کے استعمال کی شدید مذمت کرتے ہیں اورپاکستان توقع کرتا ہے کہ عبوری افغان حکومت مستقبل میں پاکستان کے خلاف ایسی سرگرمیوں کی اجازت نہیں دے گی۔"

As a last resort, even if PA starts hitting TTP in AFG, it is just going to put PA head to head with TTA. If you read the analysis of any unbiased good commentator on Pak-Afg issue, all are agreed that Pakistan has exhausted all of it's options and TTA is just not giving a damn!

I am afraid that Pak is 100% going for a future conflict with Afg regime. Boy o Boy! many of the TTA fan-boys here on PDF have no idea, what sort of pain is on the way for Pakistan.

It would be easier in that way for pakistan to nuke itself for indians won't have mercy... They will run the area once pak army runs into logistical in these god forshaken mountains
Can you rephrase this please

Yes General! That's what I meant by "Pakistan is literally out of options."

It would be easier in that way for pakistan to nuke itself for indians won't have mercy... They will over-run punjab, gb, sindh, kpk once pak army runs into logistical nightmare in these god forsaken mountains.. These mountains are not myth but real believe me.. Britain just gave up on that at the height of their power, soviet collapsed, Nato failed..

Our plan was to bait the indians with that but we would be idiots if we fall into our own bait that we prepared for the indians fully understanding what it can do... we need that as stragetic depth we have them checkmate....

The leadership is not that stupid, conflict with the Taliban is the last thing on the table, and there's a lot of things we are unaware of.

If they were so anti-Pakistan, why would they host Moeed Yusuf?

There's probably mixed sentiments between them and they may be allowing TTP to operate due to moral obligations of sorts. We can't go to war over this. Deals must be cut and we need to gain leverage somehow.

We need people on the inside who can pick off TTP commanders. Public strikes unless with explicit permission would be too damaging.
