Crimes against Women in Pakistan

This type of violence is global. This author seems to have a special obsession with Pakistan. Pointing out individual instances and then going through them - one could go through what happens to women in western countries when they are victims of domestic violence or rape. One could try to lower the incidents by arresting and punishing the people (we should not do what is done in western countries btw for punishment) but ultimately you cannot control people's brain. It's like murder - which men are victims of vast majority of the times. You can try to lower it but ultimately to stop it you must control the other person. i.e. it's not possible to stop.

Btw, domestic violence goes both ways. Women do it very often too (in western country they do it majority of the time). Thus, it cannot be called a gender problem. Feminists make it into that so as to get support and attention.
Also, keep in mind, "oppression" by definition is done by the state, not individuals. Hence what is referred to as oppression is not that but rather violence.

We are more concerned with Pakistan because it should not happen and it should definitely not happen in significant numbers.

I am definitely more concerned about honour killings because those seem to happen quite a bit - a few hundred each year - and it happens a lot more in our country than even in middle east. There's no way you can justify those things and we need to give the perpetrators highest punishment possible.

Rape is not regional and in fact it probably happens less in Pakistan than US for instance. Nevertheless it needs to be dealt with harshly as well.

Domestic violence is another matter. It is not a gender problem and men are victims of it fair number of times as well. It should not be part of "violence against women" stories.

the vast majority of domestic violance is commited by men what do you think should happen to people who commit domestic violance what do you mean by not going down the western route

will you care to explain

the vast majority of domestic violance is commited by men

In US 50-70% of domestic violence is started by women. This is confirmed by harvard medical and US centers for diseases. Your intuition which is driven by what you have been taught all your life was politically correct feminist propaganda that were done to get more funding and attention. Now obviously it will be less in Pakistan because of different mindset. But mind you, in US as well, before these studies were done, everyone that it was 90% of the time men doing it. In Pakistan I would say it's more likely to be 30-70 or something along those lines. Regardless, it's NOT a gender issue.

what do you think should happen to people who commit domestic violance

Proper investigation into what happened - history between the two people and if one was known to be pushing the other person around. Depending on the outcome, one or both of the people should be punished.

what do you mean by not going down the western route

In western countries an allegation is merely enough to get arrested for domestic violence, while often the real perpetrators get away. Oh and police often beat you based on the allegation.

can you post alink to the harvard report, how many people do you know in the west that were beat by police for allegations of domestic abuse.i think that in the back of your mind you think its allright to give your partner a slap if she ask for it

yes you can get arrested for a allegation but then there is a procedure to cheak the facts and see if there is any proof

I must repeat, we're only concerned about Pakistani women here.

While the plight of women all over the world should be felt for, but for the sake specificity lets stick to Pakistan.

Yaar, you're saying its not a gender issue. But I feel some degree of gender discrimination is there in the very nature of a significant number of us Pakistani men. It's one thing to joke that women can't drive (don't start posting youtubes of women drivers, EG) and totally another when we say women can't do this n that job, women can't work late, women need maternity leaves, women are only good for sales jobs... These are all professional examples, that you will see within multinational corporations of Pakistan. As S-2 said above, this nature is passed from generation to generation.

no my friend its not political correctness ,and by the way why would the us center of disease control publish a study on domestic violance

why do they call themselves men then, if they don't even have so called 'balls' to talk to women :disagree:

or may be they are too eager to show that they are after all 'men', seriously man this is sick, GOD!!

as i said they are too much worked up with the very existence of women around 'em
Shame on them

They are not men.. They are rapists.. In my view, there's a world of difference..

my cousin spent 11 years in a us prison for drug smuggling what he tells me that happens to rapists in prison by the other cons fills my heart with joy

Here is the report:
Centers For Disease Control Finds Women Commit Half Of Domestic Violence, Reports National Coalition of Free Men - EWORLDWIRE

While yes I agree that this is about Pakistani women, I need to stress that domestic violence should not be made into a gender issue. It isn't.

Unfortunately, in our subcontinent, it is.. These phenomenon can not be delinked from the culture and geography. Figures from western nations do not apply here. As per US numbers, even sexual harrasement at work place is also no longer a gender issue as the number of cases of women bosses exploiting male subordinates is increasing every day.. Ever heard of that in our area??
