The Tatars are the Greek (and to a lesser extent Persian) Eastern Roman Empire populations coverts to Islam, but still Greek in genetics.

If these were central Asian turks the Russians were roughing around, I would not care, the Turkish culture is to rough around local populations by Central Asian Turks, but since these are Byzantine Greeks the Russian Orthodox are kidnapping and torturing in the Crimea, then I really do care. These Crimean Tatars are not Golden Horde mob, but sons of Roman citizens. They are more civilized than any Russians. Civilization is in their blood, being Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman and Ancient Persian. Let the Crimean Tatars live in peace.

If these were Mongols, Mongols need to be ruled over by foreign powers or else they begin to behave like Mongols. It is the opposite with the Greek/Roman/Persian Tatars.
