Daily chart: The Devil's in the deterrent | The Economist

.
Can you please explain how did you arrive at that conclusion ?

.
Most of top 20 world countries in murder rates, are in Latin America and the Caribbean. These are countries that, in the post-war period up until the 1990s, experienced high levels of economic growth and urbanization, but also of worsening inequality, as growth dispropotionally benefitted the upper classes, leaving most of the rural migrants who had left for the big cities confined to slums. And as everyone knows, what feeds urban crime is mainly inequality. As South and East Asia themselves are undergoing their own period of high growth and urbanization, they should see that their growing wealth will benefit everyone more or less equally, lest they end up suffering with the same problems as Latin America.

^^ Very true. When every one is poor, little crime or jealousy (Often without a comparison...they never even realise they are poor!). But when a segment sees others living it up while they struggle...they want some action too...by any means available!

.
Does it includes suicide bombing ?

If Yes then i doubt the Statistical data and if its No , then its it is
crime against humanity ?

I'm fairly certain that the chart doesn't include terror attacks...or it would be wildly inaccurate.

Oh really? then why is the rate much lower in wealthy Islamic and Arab nations such as KSA, UAE, Qatar...etc?:azn:

.
Whatever people say about Saudi Arabia's laws, one thing is clear, if Sharia'ah law is properly applied, it really works in keeping the crime rate low.

.
Does anybody else feel that thsi graph is INACCURATE in depiciting relation between Heaven, hell and Crimes !!!

NO suicide bombings or jihadis....how the H#$%% can they not include them.......if they did .....the graph would be way different....Also what about communists and maoist ....if all the ingredients of the soup are included wonder where India and Paksitan would stand......

Because they are all rich...and the underclass is imported and controlled. Inequality is what we are talking about....when all "citizens" are rich on the government dole...it is the same as if all are poor...shall I draw a picture?

I think India would be on top, seeing the amount of rape, child burying, etc that goes on in that country

there is one kahawat...chor ke ghar pe chori nahi hoti....lol. ;-)

Those countries are far more equal than Latin America. I don't know about Qatar and the UAE, but I've heard that Saudi Arabia uses its oil wealth to cover for the needs of a significant part of the population. The poor there are most certainly not as marginalized as in Latin America.

The Gini Index measures inequality; you can see the results for many countries on this list. You can see that Latin America (and also sub-Saharan Africa, for that matter) is about the worst region when it comes to income disparities between the rich and the poor. And that, IMO, is why, as you can see in that graph, that is the region most plagued by crime.

They are all rich? I thought you were "old enough", but didn't know you are that old. Sorry, But playing clever when you are not and being sarcastic at the same time is rude.
