CPEC: Duty-Free Imports of vehicles from China eating into local assemblers’ share!

@Shaji Pappan Good. Now what they need to do is import all, yes all heavy vehicles from China. Shut down all those money making franchises - sham rackets pretending to be industry. Shut them and be done with them.

What business? Does Pakistan even have 'heavy vehicle industry'?
Kaptaan sahab every country backbone is its own industry..
Killling ur own industry and supporting others will only make u regret in future..hope u are so obsessed with china that ignoring the simple facts..
But after all its ur country and ur rules..
And in last i m not saying this bcz of jealeousness of pak..somewhere i also want pak to be prosporous and developing ,so that people may have time to think about way of living apart from roti kapda makan and religion..

Sports equipment. In my younger years in India, I was gifted a bat made in Sialkot. probably one of the better bats I used in my kit playing for my school team.
Also, aren't 60% of soccer balls used in the world made in Pak?
Now I get that this is a very niche industry, but just wanted to point out an area that can be expanded and developed with the right investment.
Also, if trade with India can be opened up, one need not bank on "outsiders" to develop industry. India itself is a huge enough market to help Pakistan improve its exports. Of course the same is vice versa, but at least you won't be competing against a manufacturing hub like china which will not do much for Pak exports. The trade gap with India will at least be manageable compared to china.
Pharma is another area of growth Pakistan should get into, that India can help with greatly.
Alas!
The political differences, our share of fanatics and Kashmir Issue wont let all those Good suggestions materialize,

I for one am a good follower and a fan of Indian Motorcycle Industry and I am sure they can provide much better and cheaper bikes here but here we are, driving the same old stuff with new stickers.

FAW and Foton are relocating to Pakistan.
nopes,
they'll just assemble, and it may almost take a decade or more to relocate.

Pakistani govt and industrialist running in opposite direction . People don t know lots of condition applied before CPEC sign. Local motor industry provide jobs to thousands of people, but these companies behavior is unacceptable. Pakistan need healthy competition, but keep Chinese motor industry away from local manufacturer. Let's wait and see how govt will protect the local industry and how Japanese behave from Chinese dumping.
Plus, do we have roads to accommodate auto mania...

You have to open your market to improve competitive Industry.. Like we did before JV with Suzuki etc.. now we are exporting vehicles to abroad.. But the issue here is, Chinese goods are cheap it is highly unlikely to produce goods cheaper than Chinese.. am not talking about quality here, cheaper in price.. you can get same product with cheap quality to top notch wrt cost.. It would be great if you guys able to launch JV.. allowing Chinese product is nice towards consumers but not for the vendors.

Bajaj used to sell imported vehicles, now they bought KTM..

Producing 400cc bikes now..

Pakistani Auto doesn't need to be protected anymore as it has been under protection for decades, but what that protection have achieved? Nothing other than assembling sub-standard products. It's time that they should be thrown to wolf. That's only way they will learn to be innovative and efficient or will be replaced.

Let them come and flush out the looters who sell low quality stuff at high prices - @Kaptaan is correct. JV's will be the way forward.

Look at Malaysia for example. Mitsubishi manufacturing plant with Proton logo as a start is how they got their local owned car production. Chinese cleaned out Rover plant in UK and now making good cars. Japanese started with cloning as well.

What many fail to realise is that cheaper transport cost is helping new businesses. My friend has just picked up a few of these Chinese made people carriers and started a business that employs people and generates a profit. Without cheap imports this wouldn't have been possible in a limited budget.

Honda, Toyota, Suzuki have been in PK for decades now and in breach of their contracts as well. I have no sympathy for them if they get their butts kicked now.

The infrastructure developed so far is already benefiting people who can connect with new areas easily, quickly and cheaply to sell their locally produced products. Their customer base has widened!

Doubters be doubters and Indians here are on anti-CpEC propaganda anyways so what they say should mean nothing to us. Why listen to the enemy who says 'buy from us and not from China.

Do Pakistan buys tractors from China??? They might be buying Indian tractors manufactured in China.Mahindra tractors....

Indian always poke their nose on CPEC. And always try to distrub it. Keep in mind that by CPEC Neither pakistan going to lose economical growth nor we will compromise our sovereignty, Prosperity and self sufficiency in future. one generation have to tolerate for next generation.

Keep telling yourself that to make you sleep easier.

As i said one generation have to tolerate for next generation. China is going to transfer technology to pakistan. And we are keen to learn it. But for this pakistan have to get rid of East india company like policies. pakistan have to face chinese influence and we are ready for this because of our next generation. it will take 20 years for future self sufficiency of pakistan. And pakistan is actualy doing as i said. There are alot of things which should not be discussed.

No nation will transfer critical technology over, even Israel, Russia, USA dont give India critical technology, China wants Pak to be dependent on them.

How did China get technology then?

How did India become a nuclear state without any technology transfer!?

Please spread your BS on Indian forums where like-minded idiots will nod.

untill we will not start making our industry strong there is no way out.
i give blame of our current situation to nig bhutto who is still alive. that mad guy just destroyed all our industry single handedly and ruined everything or else we would be an all exporter nation by now
