Cow slaughter to be punishable by life sentence in Indian state

That is how democracies work. This would be never ending debate unless you completely segregate people with different beliefs and this will have to be for all contentious issues, which would be impossible. For example, I may disagree with you on Cow slaughter but may agree with you on law banning alcohol while a Christian may agree with you on beef issue but may disagree on banning alcohol.

In my example of US abortion laws, Do you think all 100% of the people in the state have the same opinion of the law? certainly not and they have to live with the opinion of the majority in that state or move to a state when their opinion matches the majority opinion of the state.
What's your opinion on my below statement?

"A state can make a law where a non-Hindu majority town/district can consume beef, have slaughter houses within its geographical area. The district administrators can implement this law accordingly"

But you are not banning it pan India.

I'd still have been pissed. But grudgingly accepted it's a Hindu thing.

Now with this NE and Kerala thing, I've lost all respect.

It's not a Hindu thing. It's a gujju thing. Typical traits we see from that community. Dhandho maan mai ne bhi vechi khao.

Because Cow slaughter was a directive principle in the constitution and was decided to be a state subject.

If all states in India have banned it at their state levels, then it could be considered it to be converted into a Central law at that point in time.

You say we have to go to lower level while @adil_minhas says we have to take it to the Central level.

See the consensus is going to be hard to change the current setup which was agreed upon since Independence.

Your country, your rules.

Gotta wonder about the Indian Muslims though, isn't beef their favorite meat dish?
That's how a rebirth of another freedom movement. Reviving two nation theory...

They claim that their constitution is secular and thats the main reason of criticism..

Four corner of order is hold by, cow, elephant, horse and don't know what's that 4th animal, dog ? or some supernatural wild animal ????

I am certainly not saying that. I agree with Show. Let there be areas within town and cities where beef is allowed. Muslims and Christians and dalits can either move there. Or they in all likelihood are already concentrated there. Or they can go there to procure beef. The current situation is crazy. Do you have any idea how many Muslims live in UP? You want Muslim states? Are you Jinnah? Please hear yourself talking. As an Indian. Even though you no longer live on the land with the people surely you cannot be so disconnected.

What he states is, if it hurts Hindu sentiments why not ban it pan-India since India is a Hindu-majority country. I am just trying to bring a work around based on what you've been saying.

You stated that BJP is making laws based on State's demography and I am saying, why not make it district/Town demography based.

That is a better suggestion. The best suggestion is for government not to interfere with the people.

The difference being Cow is scared for Hindus while Alcohol is Haram for Muslims.

@t_for_talli had put it succinctly on an another thread, you have to compare what is sacred in both the religions.

What Cow Slaughter is for the Hindus is what Burning of Quran is for the Muslims

You are exhorting Hindus to allow slaughter of cows. Would you give the same advice on Burning of Quran?
Wrong. You are exaggerating the cow same as all other Hindus.
Your religious books are Geeta and Ramayan, not cow.
So the analogy you made is baseless.
Also Quran is not food. Cow is.

Hindu and Muslim both emerged from same society and both are not willing to step back from there stand. Well, govt need to find the solution through constitution not through religious believes . Otherwise India will head toward another division.

As it stands today, Cow slaughter is at state level as determined by the constitution.

It was included as a directive principle in constitution under Gandhi principles.

The exists law have been in place for 70 years. These are not new laws being implemented by BJP. BJP may be strictly enforcing those laws.

Is there a provision or precedent to make exceptions to laws or make laws by district or town ?

At the end of the day the functioning and powers of State level governments are very comparable to that of the Central governments. The same may not said about district and city administrations.

Replicating State level setup at each District or City/Town level would be humongous expansion of government machinery and would increase the expenses of the states, though I like the idea of decentralization.

Wrong. You are exaggerating the cow same as all other Hindus.

How do you know? All practicing Hindus consider cow as sacred.

Your religious books are Geeta and Ramayan, not cow.

Hindus do not have a single religious book and I never claimed that cow is our religious book rather cow is considered god as it has life. For Hindus Life and nature is God. Cow was declared as sacred in Bhagavad Gita

So the analogy you made is baseless.

No. It is not.

Also Quran is not food. Cow is.

Cow is a living animal while Quran is just a book without any life.

Please explain as to why there will be a need of humongous expansion of government machinery and would increase the expenses of the states?

Nothing so complicated.

You have desi daru ki dukaans that are government notified?

You have places in the north which even sell marijuana (ganja) under government license.

It's a well known fact that Muslims are spread across India. However, seeing as we are way outnumbered by Hindus, it is not conceivable that we would be in an actual majority in too many villages or towns or cities, leave alone districts or states.

So here I disagree with the solution being put forward by Show.

Neither should any Indian have to move to eat. He or she may move for employment. But to eat? Never. This is our country. Each and every one of us. There will be no more segregation. No more divisions.

Every Muslim (or Christian or Dalit or indeed beef eating Hindu - there are many more than let on here and on social.media) living anywhere in India should have the means to eat as he pleases. When he pleases. In safety.

This on the back of the existing fact that (happily to a large extent because of dietary differences) most places Muslims tend to live together. Also for safety of course. Let's face it. This is India.

So you have Government notified abbatoirs making beef available in Muslim dominated areas. In cities, towns, villages. For those who want to procure beef from.

This is out of sight of Hindus. No Hindu around to get offended. And life goes on as before. Normal. People well fed. And social harmony having one less chance to break down.

Cheers, and kudos.

@gayMo

True. The nine most horrifying word in English language is " I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

I'm from the Income Tax department - just 6.
