RY Telethon: Celebs, businessmen announce donations for PM’s COVID-19 fund

KARACHI: Showbiz and sports celebrities, business community members and others on Wednesday joined ARY Digital Network’s initiative to announce donations for Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for COVID-19.
The donations were announced during
ARY Digital Network’s Telethon for PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund hosted by Waseem Badami, Fahad Mustafa and Iqrar ul Hassan.
During the transmission, President and CEO of ARY Digital Network, Salman Iqbal, announced to donate medical supplies including testing kits and personal protective equipment (PPE) worth Rs45 million to the fund.
Pakistani film and drama actress Mahira Khan joined the ARY telethon via telephone and appealed to the masses specially overseas Pakistanis to take part in the fundraising to help needy people.
She also announced a donation for the prime minister’s fund but refused to disclose the amount.
Meray Pas Tum Ho Actor Humayun Saeed announced to donate Rs 500,000 in the fund and said that together they could pull out the country from testing times.
“Pakistani people have supported each other in difficult times and will show the same spirit this time,” he said.
Former cricket player Basit Ali announced to donate earning of his Youtube Channel for the next three months in the coronavirus fund.

Pakistani fast bowler Muhammad Amir appealed to the masses to donate in the prime minister’s fund and said that he and other cricketers were also collecting funds.
“We all have to come forward and support our people,” he said adding that entire globe is suffering from the virus (COVID-19) and they could only come out of it through coordinated efforts.
International cricketer Chris Jordan said that he had adopted preventive measures and gone into self-isolation.
“The current situation is disturbing and all people should stay indoors,” he said adding that he enjoyed his visit to Pakistan during the PSL and would return soon when the situation turns to normal.
Deputy Secretary General World Memon Organization Mahmood Shekhani announced Rs 1 million on behalf of Shekhani family for the fund.

Meiji Pakistan announced Rs 2.5 million in the prime minister’s fund for the virus while Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Chairman Admiral Jamil Akhtar announced a Rs 50 million donation.
“We will handover this amount to governor Sindh,” said the KPT chairman adding that they had already provided Rs 30 million and the remaining amount would be provided soon for the relief activities.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Haier Pakistan Javed Afridi announced a Rs 10 million donation.

Chinese companies have come to the aid of Pakistan in the fight against COVID-19 and have
donated PKR 5 million to the relief fund of the country.
President of Zonergy Company Limited of China Richard J Guo, Vice President Kevin Qiu, General Manager Li Kan from China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and donated PKR 5 million for PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.
They also donated medical supplies worth PKR 3 million that includes 30,000 masks, 100 N95 masks and 300 protection suits to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a press release issued by the PM Media Office said.
Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal was also present on the occasion.
GM CMEC Li Kan apprised about application of latest and environment-friendly technology for enhancing cotton production in China.
He offered to provide technological support to Pakistan for enhancing cotton production.
President, Zonergy evinced interest regarding investment in the renewable energy sector of Pakistan, particularly manufacturing of solar panels.
The prime minister appreciated interest of both companies for investments in Pakistan.
He also appreciated the generous gesture shown by the Chinese companies towards Pakistan’s fight against COVID-19.

Hussain Dawood pledges Rs1bn to bolster fight against corona pandemic

Dawood Hercules Corporation Chairman Hussain Dawood on Thursday pledged Rs1 billion in cash, services and kind to combat COVID-19, on behalf of his family and both the corporations.
“We are committed to help solve some of the most pressing issues of our time and it is incumbent upon us to serve our nation best when it needs us most. These are our fundamental values that continue to be at the core of what we strive to achieve,” Hussain said in a press release issued Thursday.
“We must work on several fronts concurrently. The need of the hour is to target on reducing the spread and impact of this virus,” he emphasised.
The group further said it would focus on disease prevention, with a major focus on testing and diagnostics, protecting and enabling healthcare practitioners and other key workers, who are at the frontline of the fight against this pandemic, enabling patient care and facilities; and to bolster livelihoods and sustenance of the most deserving in society.
The company also welcomed the efforts by the government and other organisations who have stepped up to this challenge.
The contribution comes a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the coronavirus relief fund to fight the epidemic and urged everyone to donate.
“Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund-2020 has been set up to help us fight this pandemic. I want everyone to donate towards this fund which will be used to take care of all those who have been made destitute by the lockdown,” he had tweeted.

British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has announced his decision to donate a generous Rs 40m to Pakistan’s COVID-19 Fund.
His donation is aimed to help with the welfare of the poor during the nationwide lockdown in Pakistan.
The generous donation will help with food and necessary items for the less fortunate. He said:
“Amir Khan Foundation will make sure to distribute ration and other necessary things among the poor.”
Alongside the donation, Amir Khan has also offered his boxing academy in Islamabad which can be used as a quarantine centre.
The Amir Khan Boxing Academy was inaugurated in Islamabad to help train the youth in the country.
During the inauguration of the academy, Amir Khan spoke to the media about why he invested in the academy. He said:
“Pakistan is a great country. I really believe in the immense talent that we have here. That’s why I have opened this academy.
“I produced amateur national champions, gold medallists, European and world champions in UK and the same I want to do in Pakistan.”
Now, the former two-time welterweight champion has revealed that the gymnasium in his boxing academy will be perfect for quarantined patients. He said:
“I want to help the government of Pakistan as they assist the patients affected by coronavirus.”
Amir has not only lent a helping hand to Pakistan. Recently, the boxer also offered his wedding venue to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
Amir Khan declared he is ready to hand over the keys to his 5,600-square-metre wedding venue over the growing shortage of beds in his hometown Bolton.
Amir took to Twitter to announce his decision. He said:
“I am prepared to give my 60,000-square foot-four story building which is due to be a wedding hall and retail outlet to the @NHSuk to help people affected by the coronavirus. Pls (please) keep safe.”
Alongside Amir Khan, other sportsmen have also donated to help with the fight against the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
The Premier League team Chelsea also agreed to provide free accommodation to NHS staff in the club’s Stamford Bridge Stadium.
While former Manchester United players Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have also provided health workers with free access to their Manchester hotels.

Pak Navy to contribute to PM's Relief Fund for COVID-19
Pakistan Navy has decided to contribute to PM’s Relief Fund for COVID-19.
Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi will donate one month salary to the relief fund.
The Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral and officers to the rank of Commodore will donate three days and all other officers two days salary to the relief fund.
