Scientists said the appearance of the "double mutant" strain was a "disaster" and branded the prime minister "crazy" for still considering a trade trip to India later this month.

Experts have questioned why India has not yet been added to the red list of countries given the concern over the strain.

It's more than criminal negligence, despite Pakistan being put on red list with much lower number of cases compared to India, India still remains on the green list, I would not be surprised if Boris announces further Covid restrictions.

Let us compare Pakistan, BD and India in terms of the virus situation:

Pakistan has stabilised at 2.3 new daily cases per 100,000 population.


BD peaked at 4.2 new daily cases per 100,000 population and this is coming down now. It is now at 3.6 cases per 100,000 population.


India is still climbing steeply and is at 12.5 new daily cases per 100,000 population and no sign of any slowdown in the rapid increase as of yet.


So BD and Pakistan that are both in much better positions get put on the UK "red list", but not India which is in a much worse position.
