What's new

Could anyone translate this?

On a side note if anyone is working up their genealogy/family tree it is best to participate in National Geographic Geno DNA Ancestry, around $100 and one could trace back the family origins.

Arab descent claim of few "sacred ones" has already been debunked.:-)

Couldn't one just claim it got diluted for many of them? Also, I know some of them who have been proven to be legit.

I have never heard anyone saying my ancestors came from Arabia or my ancestors were Arab
some people I think mostly Indians think if someone claims to be of Arab origin then he would have higher social status then it's not true
In rural areas of Pakistan someone's social status depends on how much land he owns

You get many tribes who claim a foreign origin, the most notable ones being Awans, Arains, Syeds, Qureshis, Ansaris and Mughals.

People do it either because it's true, or because they want to disassociate themselves from Hindus due to the stigma that surrounds them.

It does. Your social standing depends much more on your wealth than your lineage (unless you're a Chura or something).

Yes these tribes with strange names might be of Arab origin or maybe those Hindus who converted to Islam and for some reason took these strange names as their last name
a lot of people with Qureshi Ansaris and Mughals surnames are actually of chuhra or mirsasi origin

they want to disassociate themselves from Hindus due to the stigma that surrounds them.

Or maybe after converting to Islam they weren't allowed by their relatives to use their older surnames and they adopted these surname and started claiming they are of Arab origin
The arain which I have seen are mostly labourers and vegetable growers mostly of shorter statures and I am talking about only those which I have seen

This I think is same for every society

Yes, I do recall reading a lot of low-caste converts in recent times claiming Qurayshi ancestry. But to be honest, I think it's better if they keep doing that. If they keep their original identities, they'd (unfortunately) be treated with much malice just for being Arzals.

I have my own little hypothesis about one of these tribes, the Awans. It turns out, there actually was a guy called Syed Qutb Shah who came from Afghanistan, but he was a preacher, not a military commander (he was in fact related to Abdul Qadir Gelani). Since the term Awan can reasonably be assumed as deriving from the Arabic word Ah'wan (which means helper), and their Y-chromosome doesn't indicate an Arab origin, I think they're probably just people who assisted him in his preaching and were just given this as a title, eventually claiming descent from the guy.

This I think is same for every society

Pretty much. Just be thankful our society's racial discrimination isn't as intense as that of others (e.g India).

Tell me your ancestor name then I would find your family line from it
The friend is a Janjua, that is about as much as he knows.
