Could Alien Life Spread 'Like a Virus' to the Stars?

possible. Computer, simulation, etc are what humans can comprehend and visualize. Aliens of higher dimension would be using tools that is beyond our sense organs to perceive.
Like we are using IR UV detectors to increase our visible spectrum. Btw do you know last thursday theory?

. .
No. Please explain
Last Thursdayism
Last Thursdayism (sometimes Last Tuesdayism or Last Wednesdayism) refers to the idea that the universe may have been created last Thursday, but with the physical appearance of being billions of years old. Under this notion, people's memories, history books, fossils, light already on the way from distant stars, and so forth would all have been formed at the time of creation (last Thursday) in a state that causes them to appear to be older. It forms both a philosophical point about how our observations may not match with "reality" and a reductio ad absurdum of some young-Earth creationist ideas; if the world was created 6000 years ago with the appearance of being made billions of years ago, what stops us simply claiming it was made last Thursday in the same manner?

In this theoretical artist’s conception of the Milky Way galaxy, translucent green “bubbles” mark areas where life has spread beyond its home system to create cosmic oases, a process called panspermia. New research suggests that we could detect the pattern of panspermia, if it occurs.
NASA/JPL/R. HURT

As astronomical techniques become more advanced, a team of astrophysicists think they will be able to not only detect the signatures of alien life in exoplanetary atmospheres, but also track its relentless spread throughout the galaxy.

The research, headed by Henry Lin of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), assumes that this feat may be possible in a generation or so and that the hypothesis of panspermia may act as the delivery system for alien biology to hop from one star system to another.

ANALYSIS: Has Earth Splattered Life All Over the Solar System?

Panspermia is a process where life is somehow transplanted from planet to planet. This may happen should a planet, rich with life, be hit by a massive asteroid impact; pieces of that planet’s crust will be propelled into space and any life contained within those samples may be transplanted to another world. If these hardy lifeforms make the trip, then perhaps they can gain a foothold and seed life in this new environment.

There are other hypothetical mechanisms by which life could “hop” from one planet to the next — including the fascinating possibility of “directed panspermia” where an intelligent civilization may deliberately seed other star systems with capsules containing its biological image. Other ideas remove the need for this life to survive the trip, allowing the freeze-dried dead biology attached to space rocks to act as a template for life on a newly seeded world, a process called “necropanspermia.”

These processes are pure hypotheses right now, and this new research does not specify how life may spread, but we do know that chunks of planetary bodies can travel from planet to planet. For example, a type of meteorite found on Earth is known to originate from Mars — its isotopic signature is identical to measurements made by the armada of robots currently orbiting and roving on the Red Planet. These meteorites were bits of Mars crust blasted into space by ancient impacts.

ANALYSIS: Has Earth Brand(TM) Life Seeded the Galaxy?

It’s not such a stretch to think that chunks of Earth have also been blasted into space and computer simulations suggest that there’s a statistical chance that Earth rocks have drifted to the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn, potentially impacting some of the gas giants’ moons. Whether or not Earth’s abundant life was contained within these rocks is not known and it’s quite a stretch to think that a secondary genesis of life may have been spawned.

But say if life can hitch a ride on space rocks and this life can seed new biospheres on other worlds… how would astrobiologists recognize that life is being spread from one star system to the next? Well, like a common cold, the spread would appear viral.

“Life could spread from host star to host star in a pattern similar to the outbreak of an epidemic. In a sense, the Milky Way galaxy would become infected with pockets of life,” said co-author Avi Loeb, also of the CfA, in a press release.

Using a computer model, Lin and Loeb assumed that the “seeds” from one planet’s biosphere spreads in all directions over time. Should one of those seeds reach a habitable planet, there’s a chance it may take root. This creates several life-giving oases that could be detected by future space telescopes peering into these exoplanetary atmospheres. And should several of these life-endowed worlds be found, a pattern may emerge.

“In our theory clusters of life form, grow, and overlap like bubbles in a pot of boiling water,” said Lin.

OPINION: Directed Panspermia: Moral Obligation or Bio-Pollution?

According to the authors, whose paper has been accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Letters (and can be viewed on the arXiv preprint service), to see any kind of “viral” pattern, life would need to spread comparatively quickly, otherwise the motion of the stars around the galaxy will blur out the pattern. If a panspermia-like spread of life is occurring in the Milky Way, it would be ideal if Earth is located on the edge of a viral “bubble”; a situation whereby all the inhabited worlds are only found in one half of the sky, whereas the other half is devoid of life despite the presence of habitable exoplanets.

The fact that we may be able to decipher the biosignatures of life in the atmospheres of distant worlds is profound enough, but should we discover clusters of inhabited worlds, it begs the question: is panspermia a viable life-spreading mechanism? But even more than that, it questions the origin of life on Earth — did life originate here? Has it spread throughout the solar system or even to other stars?

Or was Earth just in the right place at the right time to catch the virus of life?

This a good hypothesis but I think it follows that if life has been spread from common sources between different star systems then it is likely that the pattern has at this point become advanced. We shouldn't expect propagation patterns to fit those from a model that is anything less than billions of years old. Earth has been host to life for at least one billion years, and probably longer. Considering it takes two hundred million years for the Earth to travel one orbit around the galactic center, that means that we already know that life (on Earth) has conducted about five complete orbits of the galaxy.

Assuming bolide impacts kick off some material from Earth periodically over the course of those millions of years, it is fair to conclude that Earth-based life has had an opportunity to be spread over the span of the galaxy. There is also no reason to assume that Earth life is the original life. It follows that since the known universe is close to thirteen billion years old then it seems likely life could have evolved long before Earth even existed and may indeed have already spread to its maximum extent across this galaxy and any others where it began.

Maybe there is an area in the Milky Way so full of life, that when a solar system passes through it, it automatically "catches" life... then it is only a question of survival and adaptation.
not sure about Aliens but PDFers can spread like a Virus to the Stars...Moon...Sun...etc etc

c) Evolution Fish -> Amphibians -> Reptiles -> Mammals
While noting , in our life spans , we have never seen proof that Mammal can become fish or Reptiles can turn into
mammal just like that

Macro evolution happens too slowly to observe within a definite life time, but micro evolution is all around us. Drug resistant TB is one such example, they evolve to thrive in the toxins we use as drugs.

.
I think the reality is that, if we ever were to find life which to me seems impossible unless we could break the laws of physics and create a wormhole type device or a "hyperdrive" is that any evidence of life we do find would probably be billions of years gone.

If you play PC games download sandbox universe and you get a tiny idea of how big the universe is, you can smash neutron stars (small, few mile wide stars that have a bigger mass than several of our suns) into each other and create a huge nebula and flash visible for many many many many lightyears in every direction yet if you zoom out a little its indistinguishable among the other stars going billions of light years in every direction possible, no way are we ever going to find life that isnt already long dead.

I just do not see , a way Fish would become a Human no matter how much it desires to walk on land

Its like Humans - I want to deep dive underwater ... and live a day underwater , the desire alone even for whole of my life does not makes me grow underwater lungs the most I will get is may be improved performance underwater for like 30-40 seconds or 1 minute

That performance is not carried over to my children if they are couch potoes

If a Human has a gene defect that is passed to its offspring , they are still human they don't just become a cow or Snake in next generation.

And why is it that us humans whose records (fossil) have only been found around 20,000-40,000 years are smarter then lets say a crocodile which is on earth for Millions of years ? Why has the crock not become smarter

If we go with the evolution theory , the one species that stays longer is smater , bolder and more adapt each generation being smarter then the older generation !!!! Is that not the basis of Evolution? Better survives and less adapt perishes?

Sometimes when I look at Jelly fish , I find them so odd , I just feel they evolved in outer planets and were merely dropped into oceans by visiting beings ...or even humans

In-fact all major spices were at some point taken from their planet and dropped off on earth

Lets take up desire to flight by humans , almost all humans want to fly at some part of their lives to touch the clouds or fly like birds , however that desire alone for 40,000 years has not caused us to start growing feathers or modify our hands or arms ?

Yes we used our brain to build a plane but , we did not see any feathers or limps growing for flying

A gene defect does not change the genetic makeup by much and the number of chromosomes remain the same; so there is no chance of an offspring of another species being produced in just one generation. Though the gene defect can cause other changes, which might not appear human. Google 'werewolf syndrome'.
And why is it that us humans whose records (fossil) have only been found around 20,000-40,000 years are smarter then lets say a crocodile which is on earth for Millions of years ? Why has the crock not become smarter
The crocodile has very little in common genetically with humans, we haven't evolved from crocs. Millions of years ago we had a common ancestor, that ancestor species evolved in multiple directions. The crocs ancestors that followed after the common ancestor didn't have necessity for much genetic change due to environmental and other factors.
If we go with the evolution theory , the one species that stays longer is smater , bolder and more adapt each generation being smarter then the older generation !!!! Is that not the basis of Evolution? Better survives and less adapt perishes?
Evolution theory say that the species more adapted to its environment will survive. A crocodile requires negligible smartness to survive in its environment as compared to humans, dolphins, dogs, etc.
Sometimes when I look at Jelly fish , I find them so odd , I just feel they evolved in outer planets and were merely dropped into oceans by visiting beings ...or even humans
Same as the croc argument; crocs, humans, jellyfish had a common ancestor which split into multiple paths of species.

.
Also , the theorist argue

Well animals have DNA , and so all animals are connected

However why is it that when we humans modify a dna / chromosome the animal dies immediately
Or when someone has defective gene they are born and called a "disabled" person

So when we modify a chromosome item becomes defective many cases unable to reproduce

So how can it naturally evolve from crocodile to Humans

When altering DNA results in "retardation" or destruction to organism why is it that theorist say no no .... the evolution happened due to "mysterious" perfect modification that happens naturally

A defective gene is a defective gene , a fish does not gets a defective gene and suddenly gets new lungs for land by "organism will power"

If the DNA was like legos , you change configuration you become new organism , however in theory humans can't create a new being from modifying a chromosome , the argument ppl make it

"We need copy of that DNA, and even then many cases the animal dies in 5-6 months or year or two later a copy of copy "

So humans can't simply modify the dna themselves to make new organism , however this
NATURE is this mysterious force that works on "WILL POWER" or need of nature to modify a DNA and a "PERFECT new creature is born

How convenient

DNA is not changable by will power of animal

If theory of Evolution was real , we would have organisms morphying daily in our view !!! Because its suppose to be a fluid system

Evolutionary-Tree-Simplified-copy.jpg

So how about it , lets change DNA/Chromosome and make a frog into a Prince

How about a simple Theory?

Life was pulled from different planets across the galaxy from 100% aquatic world to 100% land worlds and this life forms were deposited in earth as a collection "vault" for galactic animal bank

We can at the moment change the genes of animals and plants to get GM crops and products like featherless chicken, glow in the dark cat, etc. Of course we are just implanting required gene into the DNA of the test organism to get desired result.
Cloning hasn't been perfected yet, but with future tech it will be possible.

Nature has the advantage of time over us...what is 100 years of modern science in front of 4 billion years of evolution, give Science at least 50-60 years modify dna and cloning.
DNA is not changable by will power of animal
True, but only without science.
If theory of Evolution was real , we would have organisms morphying daily in our view !!! Because its suppose to be a fluid system
It takes 1000s of years or atleast 100s\

We have fossils dating back to 3.5 billion years and various stages of evolved organisms which don't exist today. its possible that primitive lifeforms (bacteria/virus) came to earth on asteroids; the "collection vault for galactic animal bank" theory is possible but highly speculative. The main reason evolution is widely accepted by scientists is due to the fossil evidence and present day animals which can be observed evolving, example-Elephants losing their tusks to prevent their poaching, drug resistant microorganism, fish adapting to toxic environment, etc.

No no , I am talking about taking a cat GENE and modifying it to make human no we can't do that ....

It does not works

.
It does not work Yet.
Whether we can do that ,depends on our science technology level. And right now its not good enough to change a cat dna into human.

It's not just wanting it. It's having conditions that help it.. also you not being able to picture it is just the limit of our imagination and our brain coming into play.
These limits and lack of proper understanding are what lead some people to ask stupid questions like: "Why don't monkeys become humans nowadays??? :hitwall:"

The changes that take place and evolution occurs over 10s of millions of years. Hell, people on PDf and the present day world can't accept changes that happen in the last decade or over the last century and you expect everyone to grasp something like evolution.

Natural selection by survival of the fittest is just one of the factors that leads to evolutionary changes. Mutations are an example of another. This is why there are whole branches of a subject devoted to it. It's not your basic table top stuff or as simple as some of the dumb religious textbooks humans follow. God says this: Hence this!!! No questions or Hell!!

I do not mean to sound uncouth and rude. Apologies if it does sound that way though. While you have expressed valid curiosity and doubts, it will take quite a bit of research and patience for you to fully study evolution and come to an understanding.

About only humans being smarter. That's not true. The intelligence for us is measurable and observable for us plainly. We cannot do so for other animals. Scientists are very interested in Orcas and Dolphins etc for this very reason. Their intelligence can be considered on par with us (arguably). Don't ask why they are not inventing planes and etc.
Every little detail require a lot of explanation. If you have the time please contact a reputable evolutionary biologist and he will answer all your queries.

Also, Humans have evolved even in the last 2 millennia.. Weaker jaws, longer lifespan, taller, less bone strength and body hair etc etc.

Finally, alien seeding and spreading like a virus refers to spreading of life as prokaryotes and semi-living viruses, initial organic soup etc.. Once they find the right habitat they can grow and evolve.

.
It does not makes sense because Evolution says, if animal desires something , like fish seeking food on land , it turns in to amphibian , however such notions are never true in real life

An elephant can always crave to drive a car he will not turn into human just by his will power what scientist would call natural selection.

When a gene mutation occurs , a man is still a man , a rather diabled or retarded man but still a Man!!! Not Fish and not Reptile

That is something that evolution theorist just cannot digest "Nature Selection does not happens"

Why when in Africa Lion is hungry he does not evolves into cow , he simply dies due to lack of food !!!

If it was true that in low food seasoning lion would get "cow teeth" I would say ok , I get it nature selection some lions grew cow teeth so they could eat grass however it did not happen.

A human can wish swim in oceans and live underwater however , he will not "evolve" by will power , which negates the proposition that animals "evolve" out of need .....why don't somali turn into fish when they are short on food ?
