I want to know how much it costs to fly both and how often their engines needs to be overhauled and then replaced.

Operating cost of Su-30MK is '4 times' more than Gripen. That's means you must pay 12,000 USD per flight hours for Su-30MK while Gripen stand at 3,000 USD.

Cost quotes are notoriuously difficult to compare, without knowledge of the exact method(s) of calculation.

There is simply no justifiable reason why ANY new tactical fighter aircraft, or any new combat aircraft of any kind, for that matter, should take longer than 5 years to develop from initial concept to combat (production and procurement). And it definitely shouldn’t take longer than 5 years for any aircraft system to go into production from the time the Air Force selects a contractor.

meh, that's not as bad as I thought it would be. if a sortie is like 6 to 8 hours that's only the price of like what a Hellfire or JSOW weapon.

the U.S military could be more efficent though.

These figures seem lower than what I had read previously. For example, IIRC, it costs $22,000 USD per hour to fly F16.
