The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony has called upon the Armed Forces to be vigilant against emerging cyber threats. Addressing the centenary celebrations of the Corps of Signals here today, he called upon the forces to keep abreast of latest technologies. Terming the Corps of Signals as the “21st century arm of our forces”, Shri Antony said it has a major role in promoting inter-Service synergy and joint operations.

“The Corps is at the forefront of transforming the Indian Army to a network-centric force. It must continuously enhance its ability to absorb latest technologies in collaboration with the Industry and R&D establishment. The Corps has done commendable work, be it in fielding futuristic strategic defence communication networks, or development of state-of-the-art tactical communication systems. The contribution of the Corps in enhancing cyber security is worth a mention. However, the Corps needs to be ever vigilant, as cyber threats continue to multiply and intensify by the day,” Shri Antony said.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju said that besides being vital to the Armed Forces, Telecommunication and Cyber Infrastructure is a national and strategic asset as various other key sectors such as the Railways, Airlines, Banks and Industry depend on it. Shri Pallam Raju said that I&CT will be a key factor in reshaping the methodology of war fighting in the future.

“Any serious disruption can jeopardise our functioning including our responses to the war being raised by our adversaries. The ramification of cyber attacks launched by an unknown adversary or individual has necessitated a relook at the planning and security of Command and Control infrastructure at the highest levels of national governance,” Shri Pallam Raju said.

Underlining that the modern warfare has undergone a paradigm shift, the Chief of Army Staff General VK Singh said that the Corps of Signals has emerged as the proverbial “nervous system” of the Armed Forces in contemporary times.

“In all future wars, information superiority will be one of the key battle winning factors and future battlefield milieu would require communication system that are secure, responsive and reliable,” said General Singh.

i appreciate that....they will sure make a team...but will they take professionals from out side ? most probably they will form a team with in army and related org.

^^just get some 10 professionals from Infosys and TCS and form a team...
And there u have a complete cyber army wid u

The first order of business would be to create a robust security domain for the tri command services. I have worked with AFNET and hence i know it gets probed by our chinese friends on an daily basis. Though they have being holding up decently well till now, the intensity of attacks have been on the rise for some time now.

apart from infosys and tcs there are lot of others skilled in this field. Even isro have a external support to its network. I worked there to. So you cant get high end cyber security persons on defence forces.

Just recruit computer graduates in armed forces. Thats what rest of the world do.

each military arm in india is equipped with cyberthreats response teams. it is manned by officers and men from individual armed forces. its charter of duties include cyber security and cyber counter intelligence. though the officers and men might not be as well trained as civilians but it is highly unlikely civilians will be hired as the job invloved is highly classified.

if u r really willing to play the part, i suggest u send a presentation to MOD abt u r plans. i m sure they will look into it. they might hire u as contract consultant.

They are already doing that buddy. computer and software engineers are being hired in all three services. My friends have told me they have SDI (software development Institute) where all kinds of softwares are being developed with respect to avionics and computers.

India is well equipped to fight in electronic warfare with all types of systems but I think we have not given much attention to cyber space and we are late. DRDO already working on next generation electronic warfare systems but cyber space so far the neglected one though they have started works.

That is not enough. When we have an well established industry in this area as well as cutting edge research centres, armed forces need to integrate their capabilities and form dedicated institutes. Though late, they are gearing up well. In this area no one comes close to US as usual.

Seriously Infosys and TCS. :what: Sheep army is going to make the cyber army huh.

I understand company pride and everything but Infosys and TCS are good for consultancy work and some software development.

But cyber warfare is all about innovation and doing things no one has done before. The very reason I never joined Infosys and TCS is that its a sheep's paradise.

Agreed there are some good people there, but they get lost in the swarm and if you spend 5 years in Infosys or TCS no Google, Adobe, Amazon, Facebook will take you unless you are exception to the story.

I know, they are coming to my college also for many years but these students are not used for hacking purposes. Chinese army have around 45000 software engineers 2-3 years back.
