Competing with India!

So is the writer implying that we should cut our self off from whole world and should isolate ourselves.
It's our own business if we are closing our ties with Russia or China, no one should be bothered about it.

And yes the security of countries lies both in economic and military stability. We can't exclude anyone of it from the list. And defence is as essential for us as our economy. The countries which adopts the stratergy of stressing on only one of the factor always lose, and they never comes up as a strong nation.

Our defence budget is still not much as compared to other countries especially one which is our main threat and known for its war mongering mentality.

The problem is our military is going pretty well, so such types of hypocrites instead of pointing out the corruption that our politicians have done, they always opens their guns at our army and defence budgets. And they also failed to see that our defence budget in these days are more important as we are fighting terrorists.

The writer is saying:
1. Stop competing with India on every pretext; Obama does not have to visit Pakistan just because he came to India
2. Don't fall prey to the delusion that there is a Chinese camp to shelter Pakistan; China will factor in the rise of India and will not want to (nor can afford to, my words) ignore that market
3. focus of social and economic development of Pakistan (which I think means stop with the jihadi strategies)

I agree with (1) and (3), (though some sort of support for Kashmiri resistance against Indian occupation is probably OK.)

As for (2), India is a proven enemy and this won't change whatever China does; so we will do what we can to deal with India, and generally China will be happy to prevent India gaining too much of a superpower regional status.

Bottom line: no backing down in front of India! Period.

Hey mam you should be worried about your own country when 70% of your country men are living lives beyond poverty level and your pm instead of improving economy, is making new military hardwares as they did recently by testing Agni 5.

Well you should understand that India spends less than 2% of its GDP in defence compared to Pakistan's 3% despite doing much better in indicators like per capita income, literacy rate,HDI and hunger index.

Reducing Defense budget will do nothing good but fill more money in to pockets of politicians. Sub continent countries need to fix the system and educate masses. One thing Pakistan could or should do is increase more number of universities or higher education, no matter how poor their quality is. As for now their priority should be security and eliminating the extremists and reducing the influence of terrorist sympathizers.

Pakistan will have to accept hard facts and introspect the actual situation. And the fact is that Pakistan has little weight in the international arena, politically and economically. Politically, it is viewed as a nuisance at best and a threat to international security at worst. Economically, it is considered a basket case and a seemingly eternal candidate for bailouts. And it has little international sympathy for its claims of terrorism victimhood, as it is viewed as being bitten by the snakes it has itself bred in its backyard.

Excellent words. Hard hitting and true. Hyper-nationalistic PDFers won't like it but these words are presenting a true picture of how Pakistan is viewed internationally. I hope the author does not end up as a missing person.

This article analyzes the Psyche of Pakistan in very correct manner but hardly few Pakistani people shall agree to that. The biggest weakness of Pakistan inability to access themselves correctly. They should conceive a role for themselves which they can play. They overestimates their strength and always try to demand a parity with India. Pakistan need to put their priority in place correctly so that realistic and achievable agenda can be put in place and achieved. After all strategic management is all about accessing the strength and weakness of some entity /country and finding a best fit with environment by which the objective can be achieved.

Now totally unnecessarily Pakistan is arranging a Parade after 7 years and want to call Russian or Chinese prime minister just to copy India. Pakistan must come out of Indian obsession and follow some model of Pakistan size country which has succeeded. If Pakistan can put its priority right, I foresee a bright future of Pakistan.

Reading the comments, so Pakistan has to agree or else they are morons?

If we are going by this, China is 5 times the economy, our influence around the world be it Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia as a whole is far more than India, our military is rated above that of India in every ranking and report.

Does that mean India should give up and accept it, I have never seen one Indian do this. Nor should you, any Indian members feel this must bring up this and that, let me just say, so can Pakistani members. I doubt every Indian is more of an expert than actual Pakistani members.

And from our perspective, like yours on Pakistan, we don't feel we must give the time of the day to.

Lest we forget, Japan is about a tenth of China and is where it is in the world. The only thing this author pointed out is his lack of ambition, lack of drive, lack of pretty much everything, he wants to accept the present, that's his business, others are working for tomorrow.

@Genesis

Buddy respect your POV but if you are going to draw parallels between India-China and Pak-India then why only look at only one aspect of the relationship...The essence of article isn`t that pakistan shouldn`t aspire to be a major player in world politics which is quite frankly inevitable and is bound to happen someday in the future but it says that Pakistan wishes for parity between itself and India purely on the basis of its supposed potential and not on the current ground realities which if applied in case of Indo-Sino relationship isn`t the case..you do not see being the case with India.......

We are not having antagonistic reltionship with each other(although i admit a difficult one)
We do not harp around the world citing your conventional and nuclear superiority as an existential threat for our country..
We also wish for a parity as is evident from the lobbying for UNSC seat but we also know that its not going to happen any time soon if it ever happens...so we are trying to alleviate our profile by working on our economy and there is no reason that pakistan can`t do that either....thanxx

Phew my first rant on PDF...:-):-)

We know, after long experience over 67 years, that India is not our well-wisher. The violence that accompanied Partition was, as Quaid-i-Azam stated right then, the result of a well-directed conspiracy meant to undermine the new Muslim state.
You are aware that there was violence from both sides, right? That hindus and sikhs were brutally slaughtered and massacred by muslims? Or have you been taught that the violence was all one sided?

If we are going by this, China is 5 times the economy, our influence around the world be it Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia as a whole is far more than India, our military is rated above that of India in every ranking and report.

Actually India has already accepted that China is far ahead economically and militarily, and that India cannot match China on both counts in the near future. There is no parity mongering from India - every time an important person visits China, we don't start crying about why he didn't stopover in India, and so on. India also does not have any offensive intentions against China - like wanting to take a Chinese province. But Pakistanis do have such an ambition, and they do try to be bracketed with India.

Pakistani obession and inferiority complex over India is costing them dearly.

They lost the Kashmir issue
Saichen glaciers
Water supply
Economic and cultural war
And nowxthe global war and image.

India dominates this region

This is why world leaders flock to Delhi and bypass Pakistan.

Pakistanis will never admit it but they have no voice

Hanging on to China coat will not change the status quo.

Enemity with India has left you way way behind

I met Kaiser ji once in a meeting, can't say where.. Before Pakistan elections. He predicted that Nawaz will win, and Imran had "no chance in hell". He was also proud of Pakistan's capitalist outlook before 1991 vs. India's socialism, but said that post 9/11 "we lost it all". We asked him about Thar coal, shale gas, IP pipeline etc. Unfortunately, at this point one Delhi based pompous journo started talking about Kashmir, and we lost all coherent discussion.

I guess that would happen when an author targets the establishment directly. This was an indirect reference that requests Pakistani's to change their status quo with regards to enmity with India and to become a welfare state and not a security state.
