What's new

Comparison of prices of essential items with previous government.

India has to remove diesel subsidy in the long run, nobody has the courage to do so in India.
At least pakistan gets to do some reform due to IMF's dadagiri.

Agreed. It will happen sooner or later too.

OMG! Guys, those items are soooo cheap in Pak, you buy 1 kg of sugar in Jordan for 102.397 PKR! Basmati rice for 600.000 PKR! WTH
Then, what should we do :hitwall:

You are LUCKY!!!

because you import these items.....we produce them and yet pay much more than some importing nations.

People don't understand negative effects of price rise in South Asia and keep comparing it with other countries with better GDP per person.
for e.g. average income per family is 40K USD and they spend less than 25% of their income behind food, for us (I know precisely about India and have knowledge of Pakistan via first hand accounts) poor people or people with very less income , they spend more than 50%-60% earnings behind food and other essential services and rest on health care and education.
More price rise means most of them have to cut part of their education or health care budget , which brings negative impact for society in long run.
Again in USA and most European countries, poor ppl get good support from government in terms of food coupons , health care and free quality education for kids.
Here public health and school infrastructure is destroyed slowly over last 3 decades and if you want good services you have to dependent on private sectors which requires lots of money.

It is utter shame that even after having surplus food grain government is not successful in bringing prices down .. and most of the money awarded to public infrastructure projects went into foreign banks which leaves poor with no option to use private sector facilities or don't use it.

Anyone who comes from abroad, either a tourist or oversea Pakistani says the same thing.
Prices of majority of the items in Pakistan are very cheap, even about 50% of the prices they pay in their country.

The problem is, with the level of inflation, the salaries and wages of people make these things expensive, even if they are cheapest available in the world.

Prices of commodities in pakistan( and in India) is expensive compared to UK. Only for tourists who live for short duration, the exchange rate helps, ask the tourist to live 1 year and work in pakistan, he will start complaining within a month.

Services on the other hand is dirt cheap in pakistan/India due to large number of poor people.
