Comedian under fire for Burka Woman version of Pretty Woman

Hardly any Pakistani womens wear Burkas, i say its less than 15% of the population does. The Afghan Refugees do of course but not born and bred Pakistani Women. But pre 9/11 i say about 5% of Pakistani women wore the Burka.
I don't mind the Burka, its the women choice and the end of the day.

I have seen more Burka wearing women being Unchaste than those wearing it..
Oh common!!

Btw.. most sex workers in Pakistan wear burka's off duty..
To guard their actual character while in open public.
a burka was, is..and will NEVER be a gauge of character...just like the length of the trousers..or a headcap..or a beard..
All are capable of being used to disguise what underneath.

And the refernce to prostitutes is just pathetic.

He mispronounces burqa3. OK drop the 3 but the q is primordial. He deserves to be stampeded by a billion chickens for this, every one of them pooping on him each time they pass.

While the death threats are clearly ridiculous, I also don't feel comfortable mocking certain women just because they chose to wear the burqa. They clearly feel it's a part of their modesty and the song specifically attacks that very aspect of their character.

The anti-burqa crowd is just as bad as the Taliban in their zeal for conformity. It's a free country and it's their choice. Show some respect for diversity and let them be.

when will these Ninja's show the rest of us some respect????

Diversity is a "good" all by itself is it??

Why do these Ninja's deserve our respect? a good answer, not this silly :diversity" stuff? What next? Talib deserve our respect because for the sake of "diversity" we have to accomodate ideas which seek our destruction?? No, sir, I think you may wish to articulate this idea differently

You statement implicitly endorses the insidious Western propaganda that every woman under a burqa, or every man with a beard, are automatically terrorist sympathizers hell bent on converting the rest of us to a strict Wahhabi regimen.

I make a clear distinction between people's appearance and their intentions. To me, a woman wearing a burqa is simply that. I make no prejudgements about her agenda.

As long as people mind their own business and let others be, I see no reason to stigmatize them. On the other hand, when anyone starts imposing their moral values upon others, then we have a problem, regardless of whether they are wearing a burqa or a mini-skirt.

I agree that we can't have a free-for-all anarchy, and we need some set of basic rules and common law, but I think a progressive state should be able to accomodate a burqa and a mini-skirt.

/?You can make better arguments than those - linking me with Western anything will not contribute to your argument.

Why do the Burka and the ideology they represent, not show the rest of us (Pakistanis and Muslims) some respect?

I was hoping you would make an argument suggesting that diversity was a societal value in which Burka was valued and those of us who don't Burka are not to be valued - or that these are somehow equal, as if good and bad and right and wrong were not opposites but equals.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for tolerance, as long as it is not just a one way street - don't you think ?

muse, I know your posts well enough to know better than to accuse you of being a Western propagandist. My point was simply that this is the line also pushed by the West to stigmatize law abiding Muslims.

That's where we differ. The burqa has been around since even before Islam, let alone the Taliban. To many women who wear it, the burqa is a statement of modesty. There is no ulterior agenda behind it. Ironically, the burqa and hijab are becoming more popular amongst Western converts and locally born children of Muslim migrants. It ihas become a symbol of free will and female empowerment -- a very Western ideology.

I was hoping you would make an argument suggesting that diversity was a societal value in which Burka was valued and those of us who don't Burka are not to be valued - or that these are somehow equal, as if good and bad and right and wrong were not opposites but equals.

Judgemental pronoucements should be avoided. By all sides. Let's not read too much into a person's dress code.

Hmm, I thought I was pretty clear on that: live and let live. It goes both ways.

...a good answer, not this silly :diversity" stuff? ...1

What is respect, and do you deserve it by being a loudmouth like you?

I have a theory sir - people who respect themselves command it from others too. Apparently burqaposh women do both.

I'd wear a burqa, gladly, and I'm a man.

...
That's where we differ. The burqa has been around since even before Islam, let alone the Taliban. ...

The burqa3 is a, afaik, a subcontinental invention (many cultures exhibit similar dresses, but the name is local and so is the form), invented to supplant the cumbersome chaadar.

For me every woman who wears skin tight clothing on the streets, weather muslim or non-muslim is no better than a Prostitue, coz she is inviting gaze from every direction and for muslims in particular Zina through eyes. A walking Fitna.

Atleast those prostitutes who wear burka r not doing that.

Listen before calling every jeans wearing women a prostitute why dont your muslim brothers get a horse eye caps to avoid the gaze....
why the phuck i should wear burqa if your brothers are perverts. get them eye bands or eye caps like horse to look straight

And dont give me this crap that burqa clad women is safe and is never raped in any part of the world.

Develepero:

I'm really not sure where your argument is going - it seems to me that you are denying that the Burka goes with a set of attitudes and beliefs -- these attitudes and beliefs makes the Burka crowd something that is always going to seen as less than reasonable -- look at the example of these attitudes and beliefs below:

See develepero, there is no getting away from the reality of these attitudes - your argument suggests that those who express such attitudes deserve our respect and tolerance, whereas what they deserve is our resolve to never accept these attititudes and to give these savages the kind of rejection they deserve -- cultural propositions are still judged on the criteria of right and wrong and good and bad - is it right for us to suffer such attitudes as those expressed above? Is it good to allow such expressions towards those muslims who do not find the attitudes and beliefs of the burka crowd ethical or moral or persuasive??

For too long have Pakistanis hidden themselves in confusion, hoping their ethical and moral cowardice will be taken for confusion -- but no more - either we are all muslims, which means we call a spade a spade when we are confronted with the attitudes expressed above or we confront those who express such attitudes and those who desseminate such ideas --

Judgemental pronoucements should be avoided

Certainly not, that's exactly what's wrong with so many Pakistanis, they have suspended judgement of right / wrong and good / bad -- such that it seems that they can no longer tell the difference - and instead see them not as opposites but equals -- a more wraped view of reality cannot be imagined.

I hope you will never allow your sense of decency - and from what I know of you, you are indeed a person whose sense of decency is such that you apply it broadly - to be an excuse for the expression of attitudes expressed by Ego Boy who while reckless and tactless was nevertheless, sincere in his understanding of the moral position from which his attitude springs from. I wish more of us who find such attititudes regrettable, were equally if not even more clear about the morality of our position.

burka if choosen by a women herself sud be fine but thats not so straightforward !! why ! becoz it will starts with an option then somebody says its how it has been used by our elders and thats how ur kid sud practice and then it may be pushed down the throats the very idea that not wearing burka or belittling it is a sin..... and then we come up with our defenses on how it can help reduce crime and whatnot.... moral policing- passing on judgments becoz somebody doesnt dress up to our beliefs/views. agreed some want to wear burka as a personal choice but its not always so straight forward white and black....... Just like in old india women used to cover their heads with saree before men, it was a practice, which gradually died out

funny our own weaknesses (mens weaknesses) are given out as reasons to justify burka and its imposition on women as just and wise.:devil:
