Combatting Trump's Wave of Isolation

I was talking to my good friend Amirhossein (@Amirh_91) recently and he brought up the point that the new Trump admin has started a new wave of isolationist/containment policies and actions against Iran. This is to be expected of a Republican administration, especially one as bombastic as Trump's. Previously, the US had full western support for its policies, but that has changed very recently.

Trump has really pissed off one of America's traditionally staunchest allies: Europe. Europe hates Trump, both politically and publicly (and one could argue more in the former than the latter).

- Aren't all Republicans and Democrats united on the Iran's sanctions bills? you may check the 99% and 98% votes on the Iran sanctions again.
- Has any of European countries ever admitted the violation of the sanctions by U.S (during Obama or Trump)?
- Are we talking about the same Europe which hosts MKO terrorist group?
- Did Europe return our Mesbah Satellite?
- Except TOTAL (which has a special permission from U.S most probably to sabotage our plans for another decade), did any European country showed any interest?
- Wasn't it the France who was playing the bad coup during the JCPOA negotiation?


- U.S rules through his power not politics.
- When it comes to Iran issue, Europe is wholeheartedly united with U.S, minor differences in tactics which isn't new either, makes no changes.

1.Lesson one was to get disappointed from U.S
2.Lesson two is to get disappointed from the Europe as well.
3.Lesson three is to get disappointed from those whose only hope and dream is west regardless of what they do or have done.

Yes, though I'd argue the Republicans are more confrontational. Regardless, we want to beat both of them.

Not fully, but they have alluded to US destabilising actions. Iran can exploit and widen this disparity.

Yes, but we cannot cut relations with an entire continent. Pragmatism is part of diplomacy.

Did Europe return our Mesbah Satellite?

No, but maybe they would if we improve relations. Again, I don't see this as an obstacle, I see it as an aim.

Except TOTAL (which has a special permission from U.S most probably to sabotage our plans for another decade), did any European country showed any interest?

Off the top of my head, without searching:

Germany's Siemens made some TOT agreements with MAPNA for F class turbines. German car companies also increased their presence in Iran.

Various other French firms like Peugeot and Airbus getting more involved in Iran.

Italy's ATR getting involved in Iran.

It was either Italy or France that wanted to do some airport development in Iran.

Iran selling more goods and commodities to all these countries.

All these and many more that I haven't searched for mean Iran has leverage in Europe, where Europeans will feel reluctant to move away from a strong trading partner like Iran.

Yes, and now we have them by the balls with Peugeot, Airbus, and Total. 3 massive companies.

I agree partially, but while their broader aims converge, there is quite a bit of room for manoeuvring. Trust me, it is important not to understate how much Europe hates Trump. Trump is an opportunity for Iran.

Diplomacy has little cost. Engagement/dialogue, increasing diplomatic presence (with ambassadors and such), as well as trade etc.

It is true and that was the sole reason I was praying for him to become the new president. Hopefully Iran can utilize this situation to its fullest.
