Beverages giant Coca-Cola on Tuesday said it, along with its partners, will invest about Rs 28,000 crore ($5 billion) in India by 2020 on various activities, including setting up of new bottling plants.

This investment is higher by $3 billion from the previous announcement made in November 2011 for a period of five years to enhance its operations in India.

"Coca Cola will invest $5 billion in India between now and 2020. This investment in India is a part of $30 billion globally planned by the company. India aims to be among top five countries in Coca Cola's markets. It is at present number seven," chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent told reporters here.

Now they are shifting their focus from aerated drinks to healthy options like fruit juices.

US $ 5 billion!, WHF. I hope India starts the second round of economic reforms, this is the correct time. In the investment world there is this herd mentality.

Thats a new move in a developing economy like India !! :)
Now S&P can change their ratings :P

Thats good news but all these **** drinks are not my type now also i prefer thumbs up over coca cola :pop:

But Thumps Up is so hard to come by in my place.

@ Topic: A very welcome move.

Problem is not the lack of FDI, problem is the politics that hampers growth. Even if we don't consider opening Retail sector to foreign companies, there are many areas where projects are stuck due to local problem/politics, even it also affect domestic industries too, sometimes.

It's nice to be patriotic, but coca cola did the smart thing and bought thumbs up. TBH it's like one of those hipster colas

Its not being patriotic, Thumps Up beats Coco Cola in taste..but yes, Coco Cola did the smart thing by buying up Thumps Up early on. Judging by the fanbase that Thumps Up still enjoys in India, if the previous owners had played their cards carefully they could have still been a major player in the Indian market.
